Should I Get?

Ive been wondering whether to wait for the new R420 , or get a 9800 XT. Now thought ive found a really good deal on a 9800 Pro. Take a look here http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatal...k_Only_25.html . What u reckon?

I just went from a 8500 128mb to the 9800XT and do not feel that I am missing much by not waiting for the next generation. Like you, my 8500 served me very well for a long time. I suspect the 9800XT will do the same. Very big, noticeable, performance increase from 8500 to 9800XT. You can always wait for the next, best thing, but then you would always be waiting and never have a new card.

Donator
about double performance in EXTREME reses with AA and AF on max. (Say 1600x1200 with 4xAA and 16xAF)

Anything below that the 128M and 256M parts are basicly the same.

You can always wait for the next best thing, and then buy the 9800 XT when a price drop comes.

Just for comparison (very non scientific as I do not benchmark)

General system specs:
Giga-Byte GA-8IK1100 /Intel 875P chipset
PIV 3GHz
1G PC3200 DDR
XP Pro
1500/256 ADSL
Nothing OC'ed

RTCW with 8500 128mb--solid 76 fps (everything set to performance AA & AF App. Preference)

RTCW with 9800XT--solid 125 fps (everything set to high quality AA 4x / AF 8x)
