does ATI Radeon 9600 XT perform well?

I have decided on an ATI made 9600 XT because i have heard good things and that i dont want the hassle of a huge card like a 9800 Pro. If i knew more and didnt have money restrictions i would definately go out and buy the best possible but thats not an option. Being that the 9600 XT is a good buy and supposedly well worth the money, i will take it. So, what do you guys think of it. Does it handle demanding games well? The rest of my system is on par with newer games( but I might me doubling my RAM in the future). If I was smart enough to mod my cpu with cooling systems and add a whole different casing I would, but since Im not smart enough, Im not going to risk killing my PC. Anyways how is that 9600 XT?

Check out our very own review HERE at DH. IMO it is the best bang for the buck. ATI's own cards are known to be excellent quality.

awesome card the 9600XT from ATI. i've got one and it rocks except for star wars game. i don't know but i had a friend of mine who has a much smaller rig than mine wanted to see what that game looked like on a better rig than his but man my 9600XT don't like that game at all. it plays about 3 to 10 fps with everything turne up on the card ( looks really sweet)and with everything turned down i still only got 8 to 20 fps SAD!!! games like the new Halo and COD play awesome averaging 60 to 80 fps with everything turned up for the best quility! i only play first person shooters so it's the best card for me for the money, but if you planning on playing star wars get an nVidia( OH PLEASE SHOOT ME FOR SAYING THAT!!!) ROFL! oh be carefull which 9600XT you get because most makers other than ATI don't always install everything ATI does, example is the Overdrive feature for the XT models. i've read many post that say "where is my overdrive feature? ah Asus 9600XT don't have it because Asus choose not to install the temp sensor for the overdrive feature. ( just and example not sure if Asus has the temp sensor or not)

I have a Sapphire Radeon 9600XT 128MB and It's very good.

Quote:
The XT outperforms the Pro model in every test by a reasonable amount. With this performance increase comes the additional feature of overdrive, looking at our overclocking results the potential for further enhanced performance over the Pro card is defiantly there. The 9600XT also features revised cooling which should enhance the cards life over that of an overclocked 9600Pro on stock cooling. Whilst we could not recommend the 9600 XT as an upgrade to anyone owning a 9500Pro/9600 and above Radeon or a 5800 or above Geforce any other consumer should be happy with the performance and additional DirectX9 features should they choose to upgrade.
- Taken from DH review above.

The core and memory clocks are faster than the 9600pro and the price is very affordable compared to other cards. The fact that you get Half-Life 2 free with it is another reason to by the card. If your going to go for a 9600 series then definately get the 9600XT.
