I ordered the ASUS Radeon 9600XT but the bastards at the shop couldn't get anything except the ATi 9600XT and instead of consulting me before ordering it, they went ahead. When they called me and said that my card was in and when I got there, to my dismay, it was the ATi version.
I wasn't about to bitch because I had been waiting 3 weeks and it was around Christmas time, so I take this thing home and find out there are no cables or software bundled with it. Then I find the Half-Life 2 voucher and scratched the little thing to get my steam key. AFTER scratching it, I read that if the box is scratched, I can't return the card or exchange it. To boot, this card is giving me problems that I can't seem to solve. Try to imagine my frustration at this point. Now I am trying to record video from my PS2 with special PS2 s-video cables (on the way in the mail) and I'm trying to determine if the ATi Radeon 9600xt has the same s-video in feature as the ASUS one. If it doesn't, I will f-cking freak.. |

I just wanna hear someone tell me that you can use video-in with this card, so if I can't get it to work, I know it's something I have done.

....Amer.... depending on were you live.... the place you bought is HAS TO give you some kind of warranty.... (within a certain peroid of days).. enless it specifically says on the reciept "sold as is" or similare.... even though... send it to ATI.. and they will replace it if it's faulty..

If my understanding is correct, the only ATi cards that will have any Video In at all are the All-in-Wonder cards. I'm not even sure about the ASUS one you were looking at, but, the one you got 'should not' have Video In of any kind if it's not an A-i-W line card.

Dyre... i wasn't going to really comment on the s-video in... as i've yet to come accross any other device other then a TV that has the ability to except S-Video in (which is driving me nutz as even VCR's should have it by now! )

Judas, I agree that VCRs should have this connection by now. I think it's still a legal battle-related issue that keeps it from happening, though.
Now, about the ASUS card, according to this site: http://www.asus.com/products/vga/r9600xt/overview.htm the card has to be an ASUS Radeon 9600XT/TVD to have the S-Video/Composite In connection. The image I see there doesn't show one on the card. But, the Specs DO list the ability with a disclaimer. SO, based on the official ASUS site, they do have a card with the ability, but, it HAS to be a TVD model. I'm assuming that's their code for what ATi calls the All in Wonder. |

.... what they could have done... and i've seen it before... set the connection to have the ability to do input/output..... which i think should have been implemented quite awhile ago as it's very cost effectively cheap... and more entising to buy...

I have a Asus 9600TX VIVO.
It comes with the video break-out box. Video Composite in works perfectly, i havnt tried S-Vid yet. All-In-Wonder cards have better quality TV capture than the normal VIVO cards. |

The ATI 9600XT is a sweet and fast card. You could always make it even better and order any TV tuner card.......in which will allow you to do video capture.....or you could get the ATI PCI tv wonder and be even better off. I have a 9800 Pro, and an Asus TV tuner card, JVC Multi System VCR, and I use the remote wonder and Multi Media Center to control it. The recording and images are AWESOME. And it works very well. Plus I am able to convert NTSC to PAL and PAL to NTSC without a problem. I have several camcorder videos that were taken while I lived in Germany......this set up was a must.

Yeah, I've been looking at the ASUS TV FM card but I am unsure if it is NTSC or PAL or both. I think I live in an NTSC region...
http://usa.asus.com/products/vga/tvfm/overview.htm ![]() The price I have been quoted from my local shop is $113 canadian dollars. No tax either because I have magic tax exempt numbers from my grampa's business. |
