need some help please with ATI

Well as of late i always have been a geforce fan. i decided to try ATI cause i have heard some things about them. my friend gave me a 9700pro which i installed. i ran driver cleaner on both nvidia drivers and ati drivers. i rebooted and installed the catalyst drivers from the ati site. this card won't play any games and when i try to run 3D mark to test my FPS the screen just goes blank and i have to reboot.

In ravenshield everything loads up fine but when i try to enter into a server it goes black. not sure what the hell is wrong and it's making me think about going back to nvidia.

anyone know wtf the problem is and help me from breaking this thing

the card is made by ATI

sorry system specs here

All other games work? And it didn't do this on your Geforce? What Geforce did you have by the way?

OK here are some questions that might help solve this:

1. Did your correctly uninstall the nvidia drivers? Meaning, did you follow the steaps on the Driver Cleaner read me?
2.Was there any error when installing the card, you might have downloaded a corrupt Driver, it sometimes happens. Try downloading it again.
3.Do you have the latest Bios and AGP drivers for your chipset?

Hope this helps.

i followed the readme in the driver cleaner package. the geforce i used to have was a geforce fx 5200. i haven't tried any other games since thats bascially all i play is ravenshield. i will try to download the drivers again and reinstall. and yes i have the latest bios and all that for my MB.

wait you ran driver cleaner on both the nvidia and ATI drivers? So you uninstalled the nvidia drivers, ran driver cleaner, installed the ati drivers, and than ran driver cleaner again? I dont use driver cleaner but i would imagine it cleans the reg entries that the uninstall didnt remove. I dont think your supposed to run it after installing new drivers. If you didnt, then forget everything i said.

no i ran driver cleaner before i installed the new card just to get any aand every driver out of my system so this video card would have sort of a clean install.

Try to set fast writes on you control panel to off, also, do you have enoughf cooling in your system? See if the fan on the card is working properlly, it sounds like it might be a heat issue? Are you overclocking the card? Do you have the latest patch for the game?

make sure the fan on the graphics card is working properly. Disable fast writes, and set the agp aperature size in bios to 128. and did you make sure you plugged in the extra power connecter into the 9700 pro? It uses more power than the AGP port can probide so it needs a feed from your power supply. If all else fails try kicking your computer. Not too hard. Strangley enough, its done wonders for me.

well my cpu is overclocked a little and i will be overclocking the radeon but it isn't now. i did turn off the fast writes and that seemed to do the trick.

my question is now, is their something wrong with the card that it won't do fastwrites or is all ATI like that??

Having fastwrites on.... off won't impact anything ... some mobo/video card combinations just don't like fastwrites.. other won't work enless fastwrites is on.....

ATI has weird problems with fastwrites... usually leave it off. It doesn't speed anything up for em anyway.
