Major PROBLEM with framerate...

I AM getting major framerate slow down. And very low scores in 3d mark. Here is my system specs:

P4 2.6 Ghz
1gig of ram DDRAM
Ati Radeon 9600 xt

For instance if I am running Elite force 2, when ONE enemy gets in front of me my framerate drops down to 25!, then two things 15!. I don't know whats going on. I have the p4p8x asus (intel chipset moterboard). I have the latest bios update and inf drivers. I don't know wahts going on. please someone help me. this sucks a high end card and it's acting like crap.
And my resolution is only 1024x768! I have one big problem here and i don't know what it is./

Do you have anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering on?

Also the 9600XT is not a high end card.

Its a budget card.

9800XT is a high-end card.

Also is it really ATi or is it PowerColor or Sapphire or Hercules or Giga-Byte or ???

Theres different makers of the cards.

edit- also that is not your system specs.

Thats just your CPU RAM and Video Card

What about power supply? Hard Drive Manufacturer? Sound Card Manufacturer and Model?

When wanting to troubleshoot a system you need to list every detail

What about the important stuff? You FSB, ram MHZ, and mobo? If you have a old NWA, with cheap 100MHz ram thats where your problems are coming from.

As for Mark scores, what version of 3DMark? What version are you using? Try AquaMark3 as well. You should be able to get well over 20,000 in AquaMark3 with your setup. Do you have Fast Writes enabled in your BIOS? Does Smartgart show it enabled? What other games are you having problems with? What rendering does your problem game use, D3D or OpenGL? Do you have VSYNC disabled? What refresh rate is your display set at? Run DxDiag and make sure that AGP texturing is enabled. Can we assume that you are running WinXP?

The 9600XT was the top card of it's time. It can perform very well, but, you may have to drop your resolution down to 800X600 to let it perform better.

Comparing benchmark scores with other systems is like comparing apples and oranges. What you need to do is test your own rig, tweak things and see if it improves it or not.

Sorry for all the questions, but the more information you give, the easier it is to help you.

I am using 3d Mark 03
Fast writes option is not available in the bios, the bios is so bare in it's setting i can only set two things Apertaure size and Priority. In the smart gear setting though it does say 8x agp and fastwrites is on.
EVERY GAME that uses character models is having framerate slowdown, EVEN SCHOOL TYCOON, and that's not taht heavy graphics based.
All my games you D3D
Vsync is not enabled.
85hz is my refresh rate
AGP texturing is enabled
I am running win2k
Oh and no matter what resolution i put it on it performs the same EVEN ON 640x480.
Is there a program out thre that i can change my voltage on my AGP slot? Maybe its low, and I CAN"T set it in the bios the bios sucks on this board.

Win2K is not the best gaming platform out there, but, what's the type of video card you had in there previously? Adjusting the voltage to the AGP card slot will not solve this problem. Are there BIOS updates available for your board? I take it that you are up to date on Direct3D, i.e., 9.0b? What chipset is your board using? Are you using the current chipset drivers? Did all the DXDiag video tests run properly?

Questions, Questions!

I had the GeForce TIT 200, with Xp and it did the same thing
I now have the Radeon 9600 XT with Win2k and it's doing the same thing. (FULL FORMAT) and FRESH INSTALL
I have the latest bios update for my board.
All the tests went correctly.
I am using the Correct INtel 865 chipset INF drivers
I have all Service Pack Updates, and all Extra updates (I.E. DirectX 9.0b)

Please tell me if there is an AGP voltage adjuster i have a feeling and I want to see. I have exhausted everything else it's worth a try.

Who makes your system board? What model is it? It would sound like you have a driver issue, or a problem with your system board.

I've not heard of a voltage adjusting program in software, just in what the board's bios will let you do.

It's the ASUS P4P8X
Using the Intel 865 Chipset
As I said in the beginning of the post I have all the BIOS and INF updates.

If the board has a problem I am going to just give up because I can't spend another $150 on another board. If it's not that I won't give up, but what say you?

Hmm, Everything in your system seems to be in order. I'm really lost.

Did you reformat before installing the new card? Have you tried the omega drivers?

When I installed my card everything was fresh.
I have also tried the OMEGA drivers. This is werid right? I swear that I could be cursed because every video card and motherboard I have had, this has always happened to me. I really don't know why.

Ok, I found your board's manual. You can adjust the AGP voltage on the Advanced page of the BIOS, select the JumperFree settings and look in there for it. You should also go into the Chipset configuration and set your AGP to 128, and DISABLE spread spectrum if it is on. I would disable spread spectrum first, and see if it helps BEFORE I would turn up the AGP voltage. Personally, I ALWAYS disable any form of spread spectrum on my system boards. EMI is not a problem at home.

Let me know what happens.

All I can say is..

Try XP. I know it's a hassle to do it all over..but if you try XP at least you can rule out the OS as being the problem. (Yes, I realize Win2K should not have ANY problems with it, but give it a try)

When you reformatted your machine, did you make sure to install the most current motherboard drivers before the video card driver? I made that mistake a few times and got horrid scores.

By the way, no one gets 10K in 3dMark03, yet. 10K is a 3dMark 2001 score.

How about we look at some things using AIDA32 . Especially the Display and chipset stuff. Let's see what is really enabled.

It could be, are you using some USB devices? I do not know how you can tell Win2K to provide an exclusive interrupt to the video card. Though if you are not using those serial comm ports or printer ports, you should disable them in your system BIOS, then remove them from the device manager. This may get Win2K to use those freed interrupts for that USB.

Important Question:

Why do I see a lot of your video cards like:
600/600, doesn't the first one mean 600 MHZ Clock Speed, and the Second the speed of the RAM ??? Because my clock speed is 499 and my ram speed is 300 on the 9600 XT. ??

Breakthrough!:

I used to the driver cleaner to completely get rid of the ATI files and my old video card files, and I reinstalled the INF drivers, and then the graphics driver. i ran 3D mark and battle of proxcon got 10 more FPS, it actually hit 33 on the elevator, IT NEVER hit that on the elevator. I'm getting close but it's still not perfoming as it should.

not sure if this affects it, but is your hard drive on the primary ide channel?? and set to master? and is your fsb set correctly on your motherboard? there should be jumpers to set this yes? and is your agp at 8 times in your bios setup? um also u said u had a gforce b4? if so there are certain files that conflict, which are not always removed, they look something like nvs or nv**.dll??

Correct, I'm overclocking my 9600XT using Rivatuner. The 660 is the DDR rate, the actual clock is 330 on my card. The GPU is being overclocked at 600Mhz from the 499.
