9800 XT temperatures
I am having a problem playing Nascar Racing 2003 by Sierra. After about 30-40 minutes of play my computer completely locks up and the monitor either goes completely black or it looks like a tv with the vertical or horizontal setting messed up and I have to hard boot to get everything running again. I am using the CAT 4.2 drivers and I don't have overdrive enabled. It seems like this may be an over heating problem and in the ATI control panel it says that the temperature is 64C. Is this too hot? My case has a rear fan, front fan, and a fan on the side panel that's specifically for the video card, not to mention the card has it's own fan and my power supply has a fan blowing as well. Any insight would be appreciated. Here are my system specs:
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Gigabyte GA-K8VT800 Motherboard 450 watt Power Supply Gigabyte ATI Radeon 9800 XT Realtek 5.1 Onboard Sound (was using an Audigy Gamer and then an Audigy 2 but both were causing their own problems so I removed them) NEC MultiSync FE950+ 19 inch Monitor Windows XP Pro |

It sounds like a hardware issue. The temp on your 9800 XT is within limits. Mine runs around 73 C all the time with not problems. I had similar problems with a 9800 Pro and it turned out that the card was bad. A quick RMA and all my problems disappeared. What lead me to believe a card issue is the output scrambling. Most of the time overheating causes video noise (pixels on the screen) and a lockup (at least when you overclock to far). Good luck.

Thanks Snuffy. I'm going to try the new 4.3 drivers and if the problem continues then I'm going to take your advice and RMA it.
