ASUS P2B-F and Radeon 9800 Pro 128M?

Hi, just wondering if anyone had this combination working fine for them. I have an Asus P2B-F with an Intel PIII-866 133MHz bus. I also have a Xtasy Radeon 9800 Pro 128M video card. For some reason, my system sometimes doesn't boot and if it does startup, it doesn't take long before it locks up. Talked to visiontek support and they said that my motherboard is too old for the video card. Don't wanna upgrade my hardware yet for a couple of month more.

So, wanna know if anyone got this combination working for them.

Thanks,

JB..

Hi there. Yes I did. The Asus P2B-F motherboard is an older motherboard (for PII and PIII CPUs). The thing is, when I plug my PII-450 CPU in the same motherboard with the Radeon 9800Pro 128M video card, it works just fine.

Let me know if you guys still have any suggestions.

Thanks again.

That is very weird... as of a change of the cpu it works... sorry ur using a450 hehe... but only thing i can think of is bios rejecting it w/ the cpu oh well not my specialty in this cat

Hi. Found the problem. It my motherboards jumper setting thats causing it. Cuz then I set my FSB to 133MHz, it also up the AGP bus speed to 89MHz and thats the problem. A normal AGP bus speed is 66MHz. So doing this, I am downclocking my CPU to 652 (100 FSB X 6.5).

Anyway, it works now so.

Thanks,

JB..

Yeah, my system is too old for the video card, but it works great. I am able to play Prince of Persia with decent speed. Too bad I bought this video card just before I decided not to go ahead with building my new system because of the new CPUs and Motherboard standards that are coming out soon. Not to mention PCI Express.

Anyway, thanks,

JB..
