Poor performance - 9800xt problem?
Hi there!
As you can see on the subject - my problem is that i have a poor performance in games. my sys: Gigabyte GA7NNXP, AMD XP3200+,1024mb ddr400 (dual), Saphire 9800xt, sblive 5.1 Example farcry: the fps are very low... 10-30, indoor levels a little bit more. i tried out different settings, but only if i set all to low it works fine. some friends of mine has the game too and they play this with high settings, but with more badly computers (9600, xp1800+,..) this is very annoying... example bf vietnam: same as farcry, poor fps, only if i set all settings to low, it works fine. actual omega drivers installed and i have done a clean re-install of the sys. its only 2 day old. has anyone some ideas? its really sad that i have a good system, but games are running better on my notebook with an ati mobility.... |

Have you installed the chipset drivers? Is your AGP apperature size at the right size? Do you have AA and AF forced on in the control panel?

Is everything (agp, directdraw and D3d) activated in directx. You can check with dxdiag (start>run>typ dxdiag>press "enter")

Wrathfox had problems with his card and with his FPS. he resolved it y installing the new catalyst. Perhaps you could try and install the catalyst 4.4 driver.

depends on the level. In bunker, my fps was about 20-60. And in open levels it was 15-30FPS. I don't lay on very high normally
.I play at : texture quality: medium Filter quality: trilinear. Water: ultra high the rest: high And I get resonable fps |

I don't know what command I used to see my FPS. I just put the lighting quality to medium. Becuase iwas getting to low fps some times fps of 25 and your weapon gets lezy with fps below 30 or 40. I think you should set you apperature size to 128M. But I'm not sure.

enter the bios, hit CTRL+1 and then there are some "hidden features" available in some points.
i think it is only available on gigabyte boards. drakesteakn has posted it, thx for the tip

well i tried all 4 sizes(32, 64, 128 and 256) and ran 3dmark2001 se benchmarks after every test:
32=11,056 64= 11,034 128= 10,982 256= 11,089 basically theres almost no difference between all 4 sizes that i could tell... ![]() p.s.: in the adv chipset features i noticed something called "AGP Always Compensate" which was "disabled"...what does this do?? |

i have GB 9800xt and a GB motherboard
and i the aperture size is set to 128 by default . Far Cry works OKay not amzing on very high settings including AA and AF . take into account that Far Cry is a very Heavy game graphicly speaking. dont expect it to run smooth in 1600X1200 on those settings. i believe it will work properly if you disable or partially disable AA and AF .
Good Luck.
