Questions on Rivatuner
I want to flash my bios with the 9800XT bios but the directions suggest ensuring that all 8 pipelines are working prior to flashing. Where in rivatuner do I look to confirm this?

when you start Rivatuner in one of the graphics adapter selection box things it should say "8x1" if you have 8 pipelines.

also you have to run some speeds tests on your card O/c-ing it to XT speeds and checking to see if it can hold the XT speed. also make sure you upgrade the cards cooling. in any case please read the thread from begining to end so you'll know for sure what to do. starting with the manual in the firsst post http://www.hardwareheaven.com/showthre...threadid=41251 rgds me972

Thanks for the help all. It seems I do have all 8 running due to the softmod. I am going to defenitely upgrade my cooling seeings how this card has a fake heatsink (its friggin plastic) and just a fan. Then I am gonna try to do some o/cing to see how far I can push it.
Next question would be: would flashing my card be worth it if I couldn't clock it up to the XT's speeds? If I could get it close would it still be an improvement? |

even if you have to remain running at you original core and mem speeds - using the XT bios would give you 5-10% improvment since it has a better optimized code. so you would gain some. its just a question of finding the best bios for your card. you shold begin with the GigaCube - most common and if it works fine and stable then you can move on to test other bios files. keep us posted and ask before you do any thing your not sure of. good luck. me972

Well I tried to flash the bios with several different bios sets and none worked. In everycase once I rebooted the computer I got a severly fragmented display. Luckily I was still able to see most of the text on xcreen in DOS so I could revert it back to the original bios everytime. I tried the gigacube and ATI XT bios as well as several of the 9800 pro bioses all to no avail.
I havent used em all yet but not sure I should keep trying really. Oh well guess I can't get it all huh?

why dont you try posting a thread with your card specs and ask some one if he or she managed to flash thier card. and if they wouldn't mind sharing the bios file with you,
Sorry. :-(
