First of all i hope you have uninstall the drivers, control panel, and the nvidia software. Then go into safemode and run your driver cleaner. Then install your video card and software.
Now to answer your question the 9800 pro 128 is an ok card. But you should went for the 9800 256mb. But of course i do know your budget is as well.

i am sorry to miss that part of the question. I like the Catalyst Drivers at www.ati.com Or you can go to www.omegacorner.com for the opitimized Ati Drivers. The Driver Cleaner is here at the DriverHeaven.net website somewhere.

Omega Drivers

Spike's Driver Cleaner

i would say go with omega they have less issues since omega irons the bugs out a bit more

my only thing is im new to ati and ive notice with the built by ati radeon 9800 pro 128mb card runs slower than my previous card which was a Geforce fx 5900 128mb core on the card was at 300 on 2D apps and 400 mhz on 3D apps and memory was at 850 and that card seem to run faster. Did i make a bad choice?? ATI's color is nice and all but nvidias card i had was faster with settings on high

negrito, no the 5900 is not better or faster. in fact it is slower on the vast majority of games and benchmarks, as a matter of fact the 5900 ultra is more on par with it (the 9800pro) and it still is overall slower than the 9800pro 128 (even with it's 256mb's of ram the 5900 ultra has). so if want the faster and better of the two cards, the 9800pro is it. the 9800 pro is definitely faster! remember even the 5900 ultra is faster than 5900, and it still (the 5900 ultra) is not faster than the 9800pro on average. so dont worry, you have the better card, the faster card. as for the guy who said that its only ok because it only has a 128mb's of memory is bugging, because unless you are planning on running your games at over 1280x1024 with anti aliasing 6x and anisotropic filtering 16x, then you will not notice a difference between the 128mb version and the 256mb version. as a matter of fact the 256mb version is slower than the 128mb version by half a frame or 2 because its ddr2 ram is slower than the ddr1 ram on the 128mb card because of its higher latencies (meaning that it has higher wait states than the lower latency ddr1 ram on the 9800pro). so on most of the benchmarks the 128mb ver. is actually faster than the 256mb version (albeit only by like i said before , a half of frame or two, but slower none the less) until you get into the higher resolutions. and mind you the ddr2 ram on the 256 ver. runs at 350mhz which is 700 mhz ddr, while the 128 runs at 340mhz (680 mhz ddr) and even thought its slower than the 256mb ver by 20 mhz ddr (or just 10 mhz if ddr is not factored in), its still faster than the 256mb ver. , simply because of its better latency (lower latencies, which means that it simply doesnt have to wait as long for information and data and instructions before it can start processing them). and dont worry about the fact that the 5900 has higher clock speeds it doesnt matter (400/850 compare to 380/680), the 9800pro is still faster trust me! and the 9800pro can do better anti-aliasing (rotated grid array compare to the ordered grid array nvidia uses), but nvdia has managed to better anisotropic filtering lately than ati with their lastest drivers (from the 52.14 up). as for which drivers are best for it? for me i like the 3.9 and the 3.7's also try the omega 3.9 and 3.7 (they have side-banding enabled whereas the ati's ones dont, however they disable fastwrites, whereas ati doesnt, but fastwrites doesnt do much if anything on ati's so far as i know and can cause more instability). i find that the newer drivers (the 4.4) slow my benchmarks down, but they have more bug fixes. but i havent run into any of the bugs yet. your better of with the 9800pro than the 5900! it is clearly the superior card!
