Problem in overclocked 9600
His Excalibur Radeon 9600 nonpro
324 core/202 mem freq @ 375/225 -- Stock Cooling, Omega Drivers for Cat 4.5 No artifacts in 3DMark03 and 2001SE @ High Quality. In thief 3(deadly shadows) when i loaded one of my saved games i saw a person (just one, the others don't have any problem) walking with white particles in his shoulder. Other than this i have no problem in the environment. Before i have no problem @ 351/222, the problem appeared when i clocked it to 375/225. I tried to revert back to the default clock speed and when i loaded the game the problem is still there. Later on in the quest i didn't see any white particles. --- In the opening menu of X2 The Threat, logo "X2" have the same white particles to the left bottom side, it's noticeable eventhough it occupies only a portion of the side of X2 logo (all options enabled AA, Bumpmapping, Shadows, Detect Quality). When i turned-off the "Shadows" setting the white particles disappeared. --- Idunno if this will happen in other games but for now i've finish the cathedral stage in Thief 3 and all are smooth. I'm in the next stage and no particles even on a single person. I think the hardware was damaged when i clocked it at 375/225 but idunno it's stable for now, i've benchmarked it more than once and no problem, been playing games for more than an hour, day. Do you think my problem would be in the omega driver or is it a defect of the hardware? PS I know some were successful @ 450/250 using only a passive heatsink, but for me my vidcard has a fan and hs, and my rig has an intake at the side and outtake at the back. |

Well, this is my first post, but since you got a similiar problem as me.
I've got a GECube 9600 Pro, and i think since i've installed those Omega Drivers 4.5 i have got a lot of artifacts. I cannot play Colin Mcrae Rally 4 correctly because those artifacts keep apearing. Games like FarCry, CMR4 and Painkiller are those where i've seen this. I've have made and overclock with ATI tool, but i only done the test to find the max core and mem. I've only played FarCry to test the overclock for a while (1 - 2 minutes maybe) i don't think that this overclock have some influence on my Radeon. Oh, another think. I usually play with all details to max. I didn't try to remove and reinstall some older omega. Is there someone with this kind of problem too ?

I found out that it's a bug in Thief 3. Some other Thief 3 players are having the same problem.
I even RMAed my old 9600 nonpro and replaced it with 9600XT coz i though my card was damaged but still the same problem. I'm using the overdrive technology for 9600XT to be safe until i buy a descent cooling for my vidcard i'll stick to it for now. I think my problem with X2 The Threat is also with the driver and some damage windows file.
