9800 pro driver problem
Hi,
I installed the new 4.6 ati drivers on my computer but when i restart i get the following error message.... "The Ati control panel failed to initialize because no ati driver is installed, or Ati driver is not working properly. The Ati control panel will now exit" Now, when i look in device manager my graphics card is listed as unknown with a yellow exclaimation. In properties it say the following... This device cannot start. (Code 10) I have tried reinstalling the driver and i still get the same problem. I have also tried driver cleaner 2. Thanks Ok i have just did drive cleaner 2 again, and have managed to get rid of the ati drivers and the above mentioned error message on start up. However, now in device manager, my 9800 pro is still listed as unknown, and in properties it now says this....... Windows cannot start this hardware because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged (code 19). Help appreciated. Last edited by Zamo; Jun 21, 2004 at 07:58 PM. |

Hello! Wellcome to DH!
Well do you have the mobo/chipset drivers installed? (VIA Hyperion or NVIDIA Nforce or INTEL or SIS)? If not check for that drivers and install them! If that not helps IÂŽll need some more specs on you current hardwaresetup/specs!![]() Edit: Have you had any NVIDA card previous to this one? If so find a drivercleaner and run tat before you install the ATi drivers

Ok did that still the same.
Windows just doesnt recognise the card, and the auto add hardware wizard doesnt even start. |

Looks like you gonna have to reformat and try again!
Windows, sp1, updates, mobo/chipset, dx9b and finally the driver you prefere! Good luck!

well there is a way to get around the issue but it involves regedit.
If you decide to try it "DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK" but it has worked for me First thing to do is export your current registry to a safe place so that you have a valid backup of it. Next navigate to this key in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Video Once there you will see entries similar to the following: {15AC165D-5A4F-4E2E-864B-AFB74F36096D} {9576D1D2-B65D-4E82-AF85-C8509AE0A978} Those keys will have to be deleted Once you delete them all and reboot Windows will revert back to 640x480 8bit color Now install the new video card drivers. Remember if you "DO NOT" back up your registry first and happen to delete the wrong keys myself or DH can in no way be held responsible

Just something for you to check........I noticed that your MB has onboard video.......do you have it set right in the BIOS?

Ok i edited the registry and it did revert back to the lowest resolution.
However when i tried to install the drivers i got the error............. ERROR: No GUID on video section. Will it fix if i format and reinstall windows? |

try safe mode
Also look into your BIOS and confirm the you do not have any onboard video devices enabled and the Primary Display adapter is set to AGP not PCI if that fails then a fresh install will fix things |

good to hear even though it ended up involving a format and frsh install. I never mind taking that route myself either since things run so nice after a fresh install
