I'm probably getting an x800 Pro... Question..

As for your question. It depends on which card you get and from which vendor. I've seen VIVO card owners claiming full 16 Pipe glory.

Club3d X800 PRO VIVO and Sapphire X800 PRO VIVO are moddable cards. Some vendors have X800 PRO which had their pipes laser cut rendering a softmod useless. Rage3D has a huge thread going on about it.

It appears that VIVO cards can be unlocked without any hard mods. I'd get a VIVO card

laser cut? ouch that's harsh. seems to me like companies are getting tougher and tougher on overclockers. first clock locks, then ddrII, and now this? what's next?

They would probably laser cut the nuts off overclockers...

You have a 9700 PRO, unless you're going to get a killer deal on a 9800XT, I'd save my money instead.

It appears that a high number of people who mod the VIVO cards to XTs suffer a rather bad failure after a couple of days.

It can be working fine one night and when you power the machine up the following day, you get a message telling you to connect the power cable to the card (which is already done).

I'm not entirely sure that you can just reflash it either as the card wont boot itself, due to it thinking there is no power to it.

Which also means you cant RMA.
