VGA BIOS question?

Dudes

I bought a GeCube ATI 9800 pro platinum, it has the R360 core of the XT and the BIOS says the card is an XT The fan really really really sux arse though. At idle with the ATI drivers 4.7 it runs at 62C with the Omega drivers 4.7 it idles at 72C!!! With Omega drivers when I play CS (Let alone DOOM3, Awesome graphics) it gets mega hot and artefacts all over the joint.

Now I may of stuffed up I used ATItool to find the max clock of the card, factory says standard is 378/338, ATItool said 391/351, so I thought I would try that clock with standard drivers, idle temp of 72C, When I tried this clock I saved it as default with ATItool, with Omega I no longer use ATItool as it is incompatible with RadLinker which comes with Omegas drivers, Radlinker has a function to set the card back to BIOS settings, when I do this it clocks the card to 391/351.

Question, did I change the BIOS default when I overclocked with ATItool?

I have set the card at 378/338 but when the card hits boiling point, the Omega drivers do a card reset/recovery to 391/351 WTF!

It’s obvious that I have to put a decent fan on it before I kill the card so I ordered a Thermaltake giant 3, I decided on that one because of a bad review believe it or not! Read the attached review and you will see why. I was going to get the Artic silencer. I also ordered a trick fan controller with temp monitoring, I figure that I can peg the top fan blower into the garbage and replace it with something better and adjust the speed with this controller while getting an accrete temp reading.

Thermaltake Giant 3 review, this guy really hated this card cooler, but it works and I’m not going to frame the damn thing.

im not a big fan of heat pipes and especially not the giant III which gives you all of this technical junk that doesnt even give you that much better cooling than the other solutions.

Yes i have to admit thats it's a suck and see exercise, in the worst event i have bought an hugly paper wait and will put the Artic Silencer on the card.

But did I change the BIOS default when I overclocked with ATItool?

Cheers

i dont think the ATI tool can change the Bios, are you sure you removed all of the ATI tool? i've used both the ATI tool and Radlinker and it never changed the Bios. You could check your bios and see what your settings are at. you would need a program like atiflash and a bios editor..if you removed ATIflash and are now using radlinker, enable overclocking and click boot at default..if you havnt already..
Woops its not boot at default, its Bios default...good luck

Thanks TiTaNiUm

I'll check the bios with a bios editor. Radlinker says the bios default is 398/351

I was just unsure if overclocking changed the bios or if it was a software tweek.

Cheers

I too have noticed oddness with ATITool and Radlinker. Change the clocks in ATITool and the sliders in radlinker have modified min/max limits..I don't trust ATITool one bit - I see visual artifacts (dots) when it does not. No thank you.
I do seem to recall re-setting the clocks from STOCK though after a reformat, so maybe try uninstalling ATITool, Radlinker, running a registry repair (or rooting out atitool keys by hand (use regmon or something worst case) ) program, and reinstalling radlinker..I doubt it changes it in the bios, as I am 99% sure it disappeared on my somewhat recent format of this partition.
