Direct3d unavailable w/ 9800 pro
Hello all,
I have been battling this issue for some time now and I am at my wits end. For what ever reason I can no longer play ut2k4 due to direct32 being disabled. I have tried a number of ati's drivers and the latest Omega with no luck and I have updated directx to the lateset version. I used driver cleaner 3 each time I switched drivers. There are no options to enable/disable AGP in the Bios and I have switched cards from another identical system with no change. Attached is a partial output from dxdiag... Any help appreciated! Thanks. ------------------ System Information ------------------ Time of this report: 8/13/2004, 14:49:41 Machine name: WHOAREYOU Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 1 (2600.xpsp2.030422-1633) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: Dell Computer Corporation System Model: Dimension XPS BIOS: Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10 A03 Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.20GHz (2 CPUs), ~3.2GHz Memory: 2046MB RAM Page File: 251MB used, 3692MB available Windows Dir: C:\WINDOWS DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) DX Setup Parameters: Not found DxDiag Version: 5.03.0001.0904 32bit Unicode ------------ DxDiag Notes ------------ DirectX Files Tab: No problems found. Did you try driver cleaner? I can't put my finger on the url to the guide, but there's plenty of info on driver cleaner around driverheaven (since this is its home and all). Give that a spin, reinstall your video card drivers, and see what happens if you haven't already..
Try system restore to before it happened? Sounds obvious, but I've had the same issue before and I couldn't shake it. A few people report that by uninstalling everything (except dx of course), using drivercleaner, and reinstalling the drivers from scratch fixed it but it didn't for me nor the majority of others based on the responses I came across. |

Try uninstalling the video card drivers, updating your chipset/agp drivers and dx 9 and then install the ati drivers.

Thanks for the tips... I have tried each of those steps on several occasions and I'm now considering a re-install of xp. Is there perhaps a registry setting or tweak that may correct this?
Thanks again. |

I'm more inclined to ask how you managed to corrupt or delete the file being called... than how you can fix it.
Anyway, have you run the system file checker to reinstall what's missing? if that fails, you could always run a windows repair console, and relay xp over your current version... while this will roll everything back to your original cd... the file would return. |

sfc /scannow from a command prompt, in case you don't know.

you need to have the CD in for that one, remember. If you're missing your XP cd...durrrr...better borrow one from someone.

Not sure on how it became corrupt to begin with, although I have had issues with remote desktop hanging the system up and having to powercycle to get back in... I'll give the sfc a run with the install cd that came with the box from dell. thanks again for the tips, I'll keep you posted on any progress...

I hope things work well...honestly I cannot see this being a problem with the cards hardware but rather the software. Then again, anything is possible, neh?
