Wink For all 9800pro 256bit 128mb K4D263238E-GC2A Samsung 2.8ns users (Bios Mod)

1. The author can´t be made in any way responsible for damages that emerged on your card by use of this Moddification. Use on your own Risk only

In the package are 2 bios versions one for r350 chips and one for the r360.
The r350 version works on both r350/r360 chips but i recommend you to use the bios version that fits your chips description so for r350 chips the r350 bios and for r360 the r360 bios, see below for comparison screenshots.
I tested both on my Sapphire Atlantis 9800pro 256bit 128mb K4D263238E-GC2A Samsung 2.8ns card and both are working i have a r360 chip and i use the r360 bios, both of them are clocked @ stock speed for Memory overclocking i suggest to use 3Dmark2003 Trols Lair for Artifact testing and Doom3 playdemo shot_002 for GPU testing, overal the Samsung Memory runs for me passive cooled @ 344 stable my GPU clock is @ 391.50 with a VGA Silencer rev3. All of this was tested Doom3 Stable for older Games GPU can be higher as we all know that Doom3 uses regions of the GPU that other Games didn´t used before.

As this is for advanced users only i think you know how to flash your card so i think i don´t have to go into detail about that.
I would like to know if you gained something with this on your card and for wich game, have fun.

Hello, welcome to DH.

So what's special about these BIOSes? Chances are it won't work on my RX9800, since it's not based on reference design. Did you just tighten the timings using RaBit?

Hi thx for the warm welcome yes the RAS latency timing is lower 8 instead of 10 as this is the only option that can be changed for the moment without causeing dramatic failures and problems. I doub´t that this will work on non reference design cards on the other hand isn´t the RX9800 useing hynix memory anyways ?

It is using Hynix memory, but it's different. I've tried flashing several BIOSes including the PowerColor one you've modified, but it doesn't take. Gives me a 'dead' card. Looking at the guide over at RojakPot confirmed it for me.

i think the ras latency change to 8 should also work for your bios without problems could you email me your bios or is it this one Radeon 9800Pro P/N 113-AA06905-100-MI 4x32 Hyn VGA+DVI+VO ?

Oh yeah, I've done all the tweaking I could with my BIOS already

I have a connect3d 128MB 9800pro with the r360 core and the same smasung RAM as you. Flashing your BIOS with the agressive memory timings caused lots of artifacts at default memory speeds (338) it didn't settle down until 329. However, even with the lower memory speed I still got a 1000 point jump in Aquamark, how much of this is down to the R360 driver optimisation and how much is the lower latency on the ram likely to be affecting it?

Just downloaded RaBit and set the RAS latancy back to 10. Got rid of all artifacts at standard clocks and allows me to push my memory to 351 without any problems, the aquamark boost looks more likely to be because of the R360 optimisations, incresing the memory speeds only gain a couple of hundred points for me. Thanks for the starting point though.

Do you use passive cooling on the memory chips ?
thx for trying it out and yes the most gain comes from the r360 code
and gpu overclocking, memory ocing isn`t very effective here.

I don't have any cooling on the RAM chips yet, ordered some OCZ BGA ramsinks though. I'll stick to the stock speeds until they come through. One question for you though, there's a real 128Mb 9800XT BIOS at http://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/bios . Its based on Hynix memory but I was wondering if the the RAM timings were set to the Samsung E-die settings would it work for our cards?

Indeed a very good question that i didn't asnwered yet myself but i have no PCI card so i couldn't return from a black screen if it fails but the question is interessting is there any special code for the memory or is it only defined by the timings but i think the russians wouldn't advice to not use another memory bios if that wouldn't be the case so i think yes Samsung and Hynix Bios are not only different in the timings and i think the russians tested that allready.
Besides if there is no other code involved changeing a Hynix bios with Samsung timings would have no impact on Speed at all so rather useless to try and fry the card for
