moded ATI CAT4.9 for all 9800SE flashed to 9800XT

ever since the release of CAT 4.8 and Omega based 4.8

some of you 9800SE owners that flashed to 9800XT via bios flash might have noticed that the drivers just don't recognize the card any more. or if you managed to force the driver install the control panel always gave out error messages.

so working with OMEGA on the 4.8 release we managed to find out what the problem was. and so I decided to mod the 4.9 release for all of you to use with as much ease as possible.

Installation:

Download the CAT 4.9 with the new New CP or CAT 4.9 with original CP.

extract the file from the executable (use WinRar or run executable without installing)
take notice to the location to which you extract the files
download the patch I've created:

there are 2 directories, just make sure you copy them as is, onto the matching directories from the extracted CAT's

[color=lime]the patch will work just the same for both new and old CP version's of the drivers.[/color]

driver and CP install in 2 steps:

to install the drivers just go into the DRIVER sub directory and run "setup.msi"

next go into the CPanel subdirectory and run the "setup.msi"

unfortunately drivers and Control Panel need to be installed separately in 2 steps.
[color=red]do not try to run the "setup.exe" in the main extracted CAT directy. it wont work[/color].

if any one needs to install the WDM drivers just run it separately also from the WDM directory.

you don't need this patch for Omega drivers they will install with no problem.
there is only one file in Omega drivers that needs to be patched.

I'm not sure I haven't tried it since the new beta based OMEGA were released last night I haven't checked the older patch from 4.9 on the BETA's
I just patched the new ones for my self..

So, i download CAT4.9 (wxp-w2k-8-051-040825a-017633c.exe) from ATI sait and try this patch, but it won't work.There is no setup.msi in both Driver or Control panel files, only Setup.exe.I was be able to instal drivers after copy files from Driver directory of patch and use Device Manager, but there is no way to instal ATI Control Panel.And what is this file in BIN directory (atiicdxx.msi), there is no such thing in ATI drivers or Control Panel.I try to run it in directory of Control Panel files, but it won't work too.So, can same one tell me what do i miss please?

are you sure you downloaded the rigt files and extracted them as you should

in any case you can avoid this patch now that OMEGA has released his set. since most of the mods needed for a flashed SE to XT have been included into the OMEGA, I've been working with him on this for a few months and he's helped ALOT!! ... only one file needs patching with OMEGA if you need it drop me an email.
I'll send it to you. it just needs to overwrite one file and all will be well.
this patch only solve a problem in the CP, all games should work great even with out the patch.

but better to have it.

Well, i download the following driver:

and Control Panel:

and extract them with WinRAR.
Anyway i use new Omega 4.10 based and without soft-mod i have 9800XT with 4 pipelines.If i use soft-mos for 9800SE i have 9800XT with 8 pipelines , so that way is fine for me.But i think to try the patch for Omega that you send me too.Thank you.

I haven't realy downloaded the 4.10 since I'm using the Omega based on the 8.07 Beta's and these Beta's are faster and newr then the 4.10
so thats why I haven't patched them

just install the Omega Based Beta and drop me an email and I'll send you the patch for Omega.

Will i break my 9800se card if i softmod it? How long will the card last if i softmod it?

I ask this because i just want to buy a new pc but still confusing whether to choose 9800se or 9600xt(the car with the price i still can afford).
Actually, I've already decided on 9800se because it can be softmodded and the result is much better than 9600xt.

but recently, i read in one forum and there is this one person that give the guide how to softmod 9800se->pro in that website, but he never suggest it because of the risk it can damage the card, in one of his comment he said he ever softmodded 3 friends of him, 2 of them the cards only last 3 months, and the other last little longer, it only lasts 6 months.

Will i still void my warranty if i change the cooler then i change back when something happen to my card and i want apply the warranty?
what the best cooler for softmodded 9800se(please tell me more than 1 name)? and how much are those?

well, i think if u only softmodd then ull still have ur warrenty since thay can't tell if u softmodd but if u flash the bios or o'c then the warrenty tends 2 become void...
and if ur planning 2 softmodd a 9800se use powercolor, it softmodds pretty well, i would give u a link to my card that i got 4 145 dollars cept it dissapeared from newegg, and i don't shop anywhere else... and yes if u chang the cooler the warranty will become void

not at the moment... sorry... I've got exams and cannot atend to it...
in any case I donot have my SE to test the drivers on any more... since I've hard moded my SE into a full XT....

I have a sephire 9800se 128ram and i tryed almost everything i could find on the need to mod it to a pro or an xt .

I dont have extra coling and im not gonna physicaly touch the card -

When i tryed installing the patch you suggested i restarted windows blalal and just before the user names apear i got a blue screen with white typing saying an error and restarted the computer

i went in safe mod and uninstalled the whole thing and now works like be4 .


I wanna know why the new omega drivers open the remaining pipelines and cause artefacts to apear in d3 . (the problem is when omega drivers enable Temporal AA and i cant switch it back )

And help would be apreciated .

(forgive me for my english im not really a pro)

the problem is not with omega , if you installed them and windows loaded then you get artifacts then the card is un modable...

ffs now im stuck with a worthless SE

What i did :

Installed the latest omega drivers (no other drivers were on the computer) and the pipelines got opened (confirmed by AtiTool) and i got alot of artefacts in doom 3 and i also got an error message from Ati Tool that im using TAA when i uninstalled Omega Drivers the pipelines were back to 4 and i got this message from ati tool :

>You can soft-mod your card and unlock the remaining 4 pipelenes and make it a 9800 non-pro

I scaned the card for artefacts when all pipelines were open and no program found any .

I dident flash my BIOS yet cuz im afraid that if i do i couldent change it to the way it was and i would be stuck with a card that shows artefacts .

I need advice on if its worth giving a try with the BIOS flashing or im a screwed and 4ever stuck with a goddamn SE
