exclamation Need Help

Could anyone care to help a newbie?

Hi all,

Im sort of a newbie. I need some advice on buying a graphic card which is Really reliable and inexpensive. Im working on some heavy 3d rendering for an animation project plus i do like to play the occasional games. ( Doom3, C&C etc..) And i really like to have some smooth moving graphics while i do all these stuff. My old MX440 64mb was, to be honest crap. I know im asking quite alot for a small budget of RM200-300. Anyone to whip my nube ass with some info?

I heard the gf ti4200 8x is a good buy...how much is it right now?

tell me what u all think

1. Welcome to Driverheaven!

2. Try to post a more meaningful title (help choosing a card will attract mmore people).

3. I think you get most bang for the buck for a Radeon 9800Pro now (it's what I'm looking to buy as well). If that's out of your league, look for a Radeon 8500 (NOT LE version). It will break 10k in 3DMark2001SE...

4. What's RM? How much is that in USD?

I was thinking about the 128MB version (around 200USD). 9800XT is much more expensive. And much more power hungry...

System Specs

The 9800pro (ATI) looks to be the sweet spot right now for price/performance that will play all the new games well with a good CPU.

On the Nvidia side, the 6600GT looks good for close to the same price.

Accuracy for your renders is going to be a consideration I would imagine, but I can't vouch for the accuracy of the drivers, application wise (ATI vs Nvidia), for that...

Maybe you won't think a video card is worth over a hundred dollars but this is how it is today. If you are playing Doom 3, 9800 pro would be good, better anyway than the ti4200. Myself I have an 9800Pro and in my old PC, it is the most pricey componment...
