PEAK X800 pro performing rubbish.

Hello, first post.

I get 30-40 FPS in CS: S and HL2 while running it at 1024 with settings medium-high. My specs:

Athlon XP 2600+
Radeon X800 pro 256mb AGP
512mb DDR RAM

My X800 is made by a company called PEAK, I haven't heard of them before.

Does anyone know why I get such poor FPS? My friends with the same proccessor and gfx card get 100+ FPS.

Thanks!

I'm running a 450 watt power supply. The thing is my friend's don't have a better comp than me. But they still get better FPS with the same card.

I used omega drivers now and I got 10fps more. Still bad tho.

That is not good. Have you checked with ati tool to see what specs your card shows?

Yeah.. it seems like there may be a problem with either an incorrect core or cut down memory bus.. do what Twangman says and check to make sure

I got better FPS on CS:S (30-60)(87fps on CS stress bench) then that with a 9600XT 128mb on a 2500+ something is defanately wrong !

Partly i think your looseing performance becuse your CPU is throttleing your GPU

your cpu is the bootle neck to your systems performance.

here is an example HL2 and CS:S i get about 90-100fps

CPU overclocked to 3400+ and X800 Pro @ XT and Beyond lol

still i think your cpu is slowing that card down overclock your cpu to 3200+ and you will see the Frames Jump up!

i think you need more RAM

ATI tool -

http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=725

read the page, its quite simple and it will tell you your card specs which you will be interested in. DONT OVERCLOCK yet or if your unsure, you could damage the card beyond repair.

Seen the specs, it all looks okay. Have you tried the latest 12b cat drivers and have you got the latest nforce drivers for the chipset -5.10's?

The only other area I can suggest is your bios settings. I doubt if its the gfx card itself but you never know. Can you try your friends card in your system and compare the results?

i had the same problem with my x800xt, i peaked at 50 fps in source, w/ my 9550XT i peak at 120 at the same settings.

i sent mine back and they say it's "fine with a few minor flaws." i'm currently waiting for the result of a BBB investigation as well as a credit card investigation.

no...that's not true. what happens is most processors can't keep up with the x800's and 6800's, therefore to get the most bang out of the card you need a 3.4Ghz Pentium EE or a FX-53 or above...and considering those are extremely expensive processors, barely anyone has them.

it's just fine to run it with an older proc, you just won't get as much out of it.

Thats what I meant. Sorry didnt put it as Thunder did. I thought with 3Ghz is sufficient to get most out of it?

3Ghz isn't really a good way to put it though. Ghz really doesn't measure performance anymore. there are so many different types of pentiums that just saying 3Ghz doesn't work anymore. and when you go over to the AMD side of things they don't even have a 3Ghz processor, but their fx-55 is the undisputed champion of gaming.

so lets put it this way, an overclocked socket 939 AMD proc, or a 3.2E or higher pentium will get the most bang out of the x800's

edit

don't quote me on the 3.2E thing...i'm not really on top of things when it comes to high budget Pentiums. i know that the 3.2 and 3.4 EE are the "best" but i'm not sure about how things beneath them stack up.
