ATI cards perform poorly on ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe boards.

Never even saw this coming.....

Review here: http://www.hothardware.com/viewarti...cleid=612&cid=2

Snip:

Quote:
Early on in our testing, it became very obvious to us that our ATi Radeon cards were at a considerable disadvantage running in the nForce4-driven ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe board. This isn't so much a knock on ASUS as it is just indicative of the fact that NVIDIA highly tunes its chipset obviously for optimal performance with their graphics cards.

The ATi/nForce4 combination disadvantage was so pronounced over what we had seen in testing with ATi cards on other platforms that we felt it wouldn't even be close to a fair comparison of graphics subsystem performance.

Damn, I just picked one up today since it was in stock at 240, now it looks like I should either sell the A8N Deluxe or sell my AX800XT and grab a couple of 6800gts.....what would you do if you were in my shoes?

They started this crap wih nforce3 seems they jumped ahead on nforce4
nforce 3 was optuimzed for best nvidia gpu performance but it dodn't hurt ati if any 1% or less... Now they gone an done what I was up in arms about yet people saw no harm in...

If I wer you i'd take the Mobo back and buy the Via soultion kt890...
or get a nforce 3 ultra or KT800 pro

supriseingly in tests the kt890 and Nforce4 are slower!!!
then Nforce 3 ultra and kt800 pro

They just have updated features like SLI and serial ATA2 etc....
...........

Unless you really want to switch over in that case go the GT route

erm.. i'm confused... the KT880 is a Socket A via chipset.....

The KT890 is a 939 chipset... but it isn't complete.. nor is it shipping yet.... Abit's had it on thier website for a good 5 months now... but no stores can get it at all... Reason being acording to rumor is that Via decided that to make it a very good contender... they would ramp up the features and specs..

Sata2 300, 6 Memory slots, 4 of which are dual channel DDR and the other 2 are DDR2 (dual channel)

plus via's own SLI mode...

We won't see anything for quite some time yet

Seems the road is paved towards a NVidia-M$ computer or a ATI-M$ one..
Buy a motherboard with an inbuild 3d enviroment (Graphics and Sound)
You going to have pay for a high, mid or low performance Rig all at once,
and no more (midlife) upgrade choices in between.

Next logical step would be: no more self build computers, and the big company's finally have us where they want, buy only complete computers, and for a big price ofcourse..

But he!, thats tomorrow nobody cares for tomorrow, today is important.

About your choice?: if you want to pay 100% more for 10% raise in performance.. be my guest. but be sure to buy a complete working 6800 with all pipes and all other NV "improvements" enabled.
