Ati X800Xt?

Hello

Seeing how i fried my 9800Pro last week, im now in the search for an new gfx card.
But like all ppl who are in the process of upgrading something so expensive (at least in sweden) i just wanted to collect some thoughts on what you people think. My choice today is an ATi X800XT but im keeping an close eye on the 6800GT aswell.AGP versions of course, havent upgraded mobo to the PCI-E yet

Are there many user in here with the 800XT version? If you have one, can you tell me your thoughts about it, your brand and OC and such nice things Would be greatly appreciated!

btw, does anyone know when the next generation of ATi and Nvidia is due for?

Thx in advance to all you who answer in this thread.

Cheers

The X800XTs are GREAT cards. I don't actually have one, but I know that almost all brands (my favorites are MSI and ASUS) make quality cards and most OC to around 540/550 (there really isn't a brand superiority in terms of OC), give or take 10MHz on each clock, with stock cooling.

The next generation for ATi is due (if you don't count the X850 series as next-gen [I don't]) May-ish, nobody really knows about nV's upcoming products or schedule, but it's expected to be later than ATi's next card.

I have a PCI-Express X800 XT, so it's pretty awesome. I haven't oced it because i don't feel the need to do so. It's a great card, I'd recommend it to anyone. I get constant 60fps (w/V-Sync on and Refresh Rate set to 60Hz for games) in DOOM 3, Half-Life 2 and UT2004 (with the exception of online play, which will have a little slow down with any card). I suggest you get this card, you can get the AGP versions easily, PCI-Express ones are harder to get, I got mine right from ATI.

I have a Sapphire X800XT. Bios is a built by ATI X800XTPE and it runs fine at PE speeds though it wont go higher without volt modding. I'm happy with it as it is just now.

The bundle was pretty good too.

I bought the Asus X800 Pro VTD, not TD and it has the 1.6ns Samsung RAM and rage theater and I finally took the plunge last week, and did the BIOS flash.

Everything went all dandy & nice. It took me less than 1 minute to reboot, flash, reboot and get up and running with the new pipes and PE Clock speeds. I tested with 12 pipes enough to know that it held the clock speeds without a sweat, only the remaining 4 to try at the point where I was then.

It did however take me over 1 hour to make a bootable CDRW (Too lazy to plug my floppy and too curious about the finer details of bootable cd's) with the backup BIOS and the new ones like Asus's XT PE and ATI's XT PE

Heck, I skipped the most prudent advice anyone should follow anytime for flashing, that is, NOT having a backup PCI vid card nearby

I terms of performance, let me put it this way, I cant beleive it !

My 2 cents for picking out a brand, ATI or Asus. they have 3 year warranties in North America and mostly elsewhere. or any other ones with more than 1 year. OEM's are not bad, but the warranty will definately be less easy to get serviced. Asus does not have up to date drivers most of the time, and SmartDoctor will not run on AGP based ATI's and most NVidia's, but they were in stock, and they have 3 years and probably not clsing for business for a very long time.

regards

PS : when it was still a Pro, the performance was very good as well

How many have tried the x800Pro to XT flash then? How many of you have succeeded in doing this? If so, is it only the ViVo models that this can be done with?

In any cases, thanks for the replys. Been looking at an PowerColor X800XT 256Mb and i think im gonna go with that.

Mostly yes, only the VIVO models. Reason is, all XT's (99% I guess) have the rage theater chip. If you flash a non VIVO model to XT, the new BIOS is going tell Windows that there is a WDM capture device etc... and it causes issues. Also, you must make sure that your RAM chips are rated at same speeds as the XT, so 1.6ns minimum for a no risk FLASH.

If you have the money for a XT, then I suggest you go straight to XT and cough up the difference. Also, may I suggest a brand that has a better warranty, Powercolor is not crap, but I have seen a bunch of those have the yellow bars appear on the screen on 9700's / 9800's and all within 2 years.

Anyways, just a suggestion
