ATi Overdrive Hack

Surely by now someone has figured out how to hack "Overdrive" to increase maximum overclock. . .now that I have the Artic Cooling setup (AWESOME - will post more detail about that later), the "Overdrive Level" is always pinned, even under load, so I would like to crank it up a few notches.

TIA,

Rasta

Sigh.

OK, I should have said, "I know I can use a 3d party tool to overclock, but the question is about Overdrive."

"Ok, let's see if we can get an answer. . ."

You can't hack regular OverDrive its based on overdrive table values in your cards bios, the gpu temps and stuff in the drivers/CP...

You should buy an X850 and get to use overdrive3...
of couse there are some things I won't and can't tell you *

from the DH X850 artical
http://www.hardwareheaven.com/reviews/...erclocking.htm

other wise it's 3rd part tools for you!

What the. . .

rasta

p.s. Oh yeah, and if this is based on data stored in BIOS, then it CAN be hacked, as BIOS values can be edited!

( You got to love NDA's )

Well no bios moder or tweaker to date has found any way to edit it

Nope it's based of values in the bios and in the CP / temps monitored by the Hotkey poller etc it's adjusted acording to temp...no one has figured out how to mess with it... your beating a dead dog.... move on...

Use 3rd party tools or buy an X850 so you can use over drive 3

don't let neon get you down rasta monsta, I guess no one here has found a way to alter the settings. If you are brave dump a copy of your bios file and grab a hex editor and go for it. If you are successful let us know, I'm sure there are many that would like to know

LOL You forget I've went down this road thier is didly about it no ones came anywere close... With it being a year + later...

Figure that it's fixed... unless ATI desides to make OD3 for all XT cards insted of just the new X850's your just out of luck and forced to use 3rd party tools...

Just being a realist Bioses aren't things you just monkey with!
Edit a bios flash it in even with a proven editor / patcher can = messed up card. Even an unmodified bios can go wrong.... It's high risk and if all else fails some time loading in a backed up bios can fail but useally works. If it doesn't the mfg will absoultly know that you misflashed it and it's not coverd under warrenty. At that point you effectively have a $200-$500 paper wieght

As for ati's software, well can't legally decompile and edit it and I'd assume you'd have to edit both to work properly so it's a loose / loose ....

By all means he can try as he wishes it's his card it's his right but i'm
carefull as to the advice I give many have looked into many have tried and failed. No ones don't it yet and id assume the gut that makes the rebit editor etc would the 1st to crack if it's ever done....

Neon, if overdrive requires driver support, it must be listed somewhere in a DLL, meaning it CAN be edited. Whether or not you can find out where or how is a whole nother animal, however.

Might be a fun project, though I may give it a go this week in between school and the ZP drivers.

Though I have an older card. Im wondering how you even get overdrive in your Cats driver windows. I have a Asus 9800XT and Ive never seen any of my Cats drivers display this. Now it is available for me to choose using Asus SmartDoctor so I know its working properly on my card. Just not sure how to get it in my Cats display. Any ideas?

Id be curious if theres a way to enable it on other cards in general. I know my cards cooled well enough to use it, as it comes with a utility that can automatically oc the card and not void the warranty. I also know my card has a thermal probe onboard as ati tray tools reads the temp. hmmm...

I think it was available starting on the 9800XT but not sure when it became available in which driver. First Cats maybe?

Ive seen other 9800XT's that have the overdrive section in there display properties just not sure why mine doesnt. I vaguely remember something about it when I got the card. I just bought an X800XT PE so we will see if it shows up with the new card.

You guys want to use OD3? buy an X850XT or XT PE

You want to use OD? Well if you core supports it? a flash with a bios can do it. But it can also do in your card just as easy... best to buy a card with overdrive enabled in the 1st place

No becouse you have an asus card they disable overdrive via the bios. So that you card is compatable with smartdoctor... You could try useing a bios not intented for you card but it may leave you with a paper weight

BTW:

forum rules state your siggy is limited to max 400 pixels wide by 100 tall, and a 100k size limit... your current siggy 354x124 ... and 131k Please fix it....

Where there is a will theres a way...

But you won't get the answer from me or anyone who may know or be able to find or figure it out. becouse they either can't or won't tell you....or give you any of the possably needed files/code .. well they could and enjoy the full rath of ati's lawiers but I don't see that happening...

Seeing as ATi cancelled the x700xt wouldnt it be logical to just give it to x700 pro users ?
