1280x768 on 1280x800 LCD

I'm trying to run my notebook's LCD at 1280x768 because it's the only widescreen resolution that KOTOR2 can be convinced to run at (in the cfg file).

Problem is my LCD or the ATI drivers are going virtual desktop at the resolution. It just seems silly that this would be a problem considering how close 1280x768 is to the screen's native 1280x800.

I've tried the Omega Drivers, modded ATI Catalysts, and the OEM Emachines drivers. (It's a eMachines 6805). The OEM drivers don't even offer 1280x768.

Anyone figure out ways around this virtual desktop crap?
