Asus EAX800XTPE on DFI SLI-DR - Asus Software problems

Hi guys

My DFI builds is now running almost perfectly (unfortunately I have my memory running CPC disabled for the time being).

The only problem I have is with the graphics card.

2 things really ...

1. The first gold strip on the edge connector (closest to the back plate) on the front of the card is an L shape (i.e. straight down like the others but with a little perpendicular leg at the bottom of the strip pointing to the back plate). The strip is also a couple of mm shorter than all the other strips.

Is this normal ?

2. I didn't use the Asus driver disk to start with. I installed XP Pro, then SP2, then all the DFI drivers and finally downloaded the Asus 808 drivers off the net. I installed these drivers ok. I then downloaded the latest Smartdoc - 460. I double clicked on it to install ... the extraction process started and shortly after the PC hung (no mouse movement). 20 seconds later the PC rebooted.

Upon reboot, there was a 'serious error' dialogue came up and was a system error in the ev log. Here are the details :

BCCode:100000ea BCP1:862F1620 BCP2:86214908 BCP3: F7A1BCB4 BCP4:00000001 OsVer:5-1-2600 SP:2_0 Product:256_1

System log showed an System Error on 4 of the occasions - not all of the reboots.

Details were - Category (102), Event Id 1003.

Error code 100000ea, parameter1 862f1620, parameter2 86214908, parameter3 f7a1bcb4, parameter4 00000001.

I decided to load and run other tests to see if there was a problem with motherboard, memory, disks, CPU.

These were 3DMark05, PCMark04, AquaMark03. All these ran fine to completion (5836, 4481, 68,724(GFX=10,515 & CPU 9,917).
I then ran the latest memtest for 5 hours .... hit no problems.
I then ran Prime95 benchmark, Torture Test - Heat for 3 hours and Torture Test Blend for 8 hours. No errors or warnings.

I tried putting in the Asus driver CD so I could install the older Smartdoc.
The moment it auto ran .... hit same problem .... frozen mouse .... 20 secs later .... reboot.

I then uninstalled 808 drivers, rebooted and installed the ATI Catalyst (latest from today - 5.2). This installed fine. I rebooted. Then tried Smartdoc 460 .... same hang and reboot.
Did a further clean reboot and then tried to access the driver CD again.
Same hang and reboot.

The machine is rock solid until I present it with the Asus driver CD or try to run Smartdoc.

Anyone have any idea what is going on ....

Paul.

It sounds like the smartdoc issue. I'm not sure what version you need to use but by all means, do NOT use the one that came with your card.

Do a search for "ASUS AX800 XT review Zardon" and you should find an article posted in the review section back in December (i think). I need to do the same cause I cant remember the specifics but the smartdoc app was causing a reboot loop. If I remember correctly, there was a later version which asus sent him which resolved the problem, but I am certain that that is the same issue we have had (My system went competely haywire the moment I launched Smartdoc for the first time).

It's all explained in detail in the review.

EDIT: here is the link to specifics, apparently it is a bios issue not a software issue. I was thinking the software was updated to fix the prob, not the bios. Let me know how it goes..... http://www.hardwareheaven.com/reviews/...aredrivers.htmhttp://www.hardwareheaven.com/reviews/...aredrivers.htm
