catalyst drivers and resolution
hey all-jus wanted to ask a quick question. i searched but couldnt find the answer. i patched and installed the latest catalyst drivers for a sony vaio pcg-grz20l laptop, and it seems to work fine. but i lost my higher screen resolution options while i was at it. when i go to properties, i can turn the resolution of my imaginary secondary monitor way up, but the screen on my laptop is stuck at 1280x1024. i used to be able to hit about 1400x1050 when i used omega. is there some way to change my primary monitor to the imaginary secondary monitor? how can i fix this resolution problem?

That's the one that has the Mobility 7500 in it, right? Wierd.. that one is still supported in the Omega drivers. What type of monitor does it show you have as your primary display? Plug and Play, or some set type (like LCD 1280x1024)? If it shows 'Default Monitor' or nothing at all you can try to force it to a standard type (1600), or try installing a 'Plug and Play' monitor. Reboot at least once just to be sure it stays listed that way, and then try changing the resolution.

What I meant was of the 2 displays showing, does the Primary one show up as 'Default Monitor'? Or do both show up that way?
To change the monitor type go to the Display Properties, Settings, hit the 'Advanced' button, choose the 'Monitor' tab, hit the Properties button, Driver tab, Update Driver button, continue until you hit 'Install from specific location'. Choose that option, choose 'Don't search', uncheck 'Show Compatible' so that you see all the manufacturers on the left side. Scroll that to the top until you see 'standard monitor types', and on the right side choose 'Plug and Play', or 'Digital Flat Panel 1600x1200). Then follow the rest to install the driver. Edit: BTW, you don't want to use Secondary adapter as for laptops that usually means to use the VGA/TV-Out. Also, no need to redownload or reinstall the drivers just now. Give this a shot first, and if it doesn't work you can try to uninstall/reinstall them afterwards.

well it worked-but 1600x1200 is way too big. any way to get 1400x1050 again?

Try forcing Plug and Play this time.
Also, check to see if there are display, or rather monitor drivers on the CD as well. You can try to update the monitor driver. Let Windows search the CD that they gave you to see if it comes up with anything. |
