A Graphics Card Problem ?????
I've built myself a new computer in the last week, and am having some difficulties with some things. One problem, I've already solved, but the one I'm having problems with now, I've never experienced before. I'll relate what has happed sofar tonight.
After I got home from work tonight, I turned my computer on, in the process of booting up it rebooted, when it reached the desktop, I got his message that "Windows has recovered from a serious error". It had generated an error message to send to Microsoft. I did't send the first error message, then a few moments ago, the computer rebooted again, when it reached the desktop, the same error message was there again. This time I connected to the Internet and sent the message. The technical data is below; BCCode : 1000008e BCP1 : C0000005 BCP2 : 805B071F BCP3 : A7EF1CE4 BCP4 : 00000000 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0 Product : 256_1 When the message was sent I was taken to this page at Microsoft's website; http://oca.microsoft.com/en/response.aspx?SGD=b8e2596a-a233-4f99-b6ff-73ac415b00b7&SID=11 When I first put this computer together I had installed the Catalyst 5.3 Display Driver and Control Panel. Well, last night I reinstalled Windows Xp Pro solving the other problems I had, I installed the Catalyst 5.1 Display Driver and Control Panel. Now the same problem is occuring. Does anyone know what is causing this and how to fix it, I don't know what to do to begin to fix this problem. My computer specs are below. I apologise if I have posted in the wrong section. drwho

have you configured your memory timings in your bios?have you updated bios to latest version?have you installed any chipset drivers if your board requires them?have you updated all firmware to latest version?have you made sure all hardware is seated properly? and turned off all onboard periferals that are unneeded? and double checked to see if your hardware is recognized correctly in bios?also do a search on all your hardware specificaly your mobo to see if you have any incompatabilities with each other.this is all really new hardware so there is bound to be some hickups until the bios and firmware are pollished.make sure you are not forgetting to do something and look through your boards manual to make sure.good luck |

I have done all you have suggested, except get the latest Bios. I'm unable to flash the Bios using Abit's FlashMenu and have never flashed a Bios manuelly, and at this point am unwilling to try. Like I said, I've never run into this problem before and don't know what to do. drwho

I think I need to clarify. Abit's FlashMenu is a window's utility for flashing the Bios through windows and not using a Floppy Disk. When I said that the FlashMenu would not let me flash the Bios, I should have said that the Flashmenu could not find the files in order to flash the Bios. Just as a sidenote, I'm not overclocking, have never attempted it because I don't know the first thing about it. I have downloaded the lastest Bios from Abit's website and will attempt to flash the Bios latter to night. Also let me say thanks for your help, I appreciate it.

hey there,
i would ckeck to make sure you dont already have the latest bios installed before you flash.the risk is to great to flash if you dont need to.if you arent overclocking your board at all then i will presume you have left everything at default settings.if so then this is something you need to work on.just because your settings are on auto or spd for your memory timings does not meen that the settings are correct.you should always set everything to manual and adjust everything manually.somethings will be correct and some things will be incorrect.the biggest thing is your memory timings and voltage, check with your ram manufacture or on the package or on the ram itself and see what the rated voltage is and what the timings are.later |

Acting on your suggestion, that 99.9% of all reboot problems were memory related, I went out to the local Fry's Electronics. They had a sale on some Mushkin DDR400 (512x2) for $119.99. This memory is now in my computer. One good sign is when I booted up after putting the memory in, the computer didn't reboot, which it had been doing with the Twinmos memory in it. I'll post back in the next day or two and let you know if the reboots have stopped. drwho
