??? 9800 XT graphic problem

System

AMD 64 3200
KT8 Neo
1 gig Corsair
Win Ho XP sp2
directx 9.0c

I have tried my older Catalyst drivers, Catalyst 5.3 a week ago, and then this week, and Omega 5.2. I did the wipe of ATI files, including the use of Driver Cleaner in safe mode between installs and I still have the same problem.

The problem

At the interface between contrasting colors, which can be lines or curved surfaces, there will be small rectangular area of a checkerboard pattern of the two colors. These areas are around 15 pixels across or smaller. The glitch also affects text making it more difficult to read.

I first saw this with Saga of Ryzom but only for some opening 2D screens. I did not care as there were no problems in the game. Recently, I downloaded the beta for Risk Your Life and found the same problem in game there. This week, I started playing Eve Online and the problem is occuring ingame there.

Seeing as this problem is occuring with different games and with different drivers installed, could this be a problem with the video card ?

For most uses, the card displays brilliantly. What would be the commonality between the three games to bring out this problem?

Is there any testing program to download to test the funtioning of the videocard?

What suggestions does anyone have as my next steps to diagnose the problem or correct it?

What is your power supply and for how long you've had it?

the easiest way to tell if it is your gpu is to find a friend or relative with a pc that you could test your card in.good luck

I am actually on my second power supply. A previous power supply did die as did my motherboard a few months ago (at a different time).

This problem has been consistent with both power supplies. I have had this problem for six months but did not worry about it since it just happened with the intro screens of Saga of Ryzom. I figured it was some code problem with SoR since it just happened for their intro screens. I only became concerned recently when the same graphic distortion was seen in the two other games.

I will stick the card in another computer. If I see the same problem there, then I should conclude the video card is bad?
