9800 Pro Not working in a Gigabyte GA-K8NS Ultra 939 nforce3
Hey, I got a new problem, its my friends comp this time, hopin you guys can share some insights with what you know.
His comp had been "randomly" shutting off its self. the kind of shutting off that occurs when theres some thing wrong with your videocard, psu, ect. so i changed the video drivers, to latest omega, then to latest ones from ati, bearly any difference, but it did shut off suddenly less. when it was turning off, it was usually in a game, where the card is being heavily used. so i try the next thing, formatting c, reinstall of windows. didnt work too good. while i was installing windows, it shut off again. and kept doing it over and over, i couldnt install windows cause the comp would keep turning off. so i tried some thing that had worked for me in the past with different hardware related issues, i reseeded every thing in the whole computer, and then i reset the bios, taking the battery out for a while, put it back in. after that, it would bearly get past the bios screen before turning off. eventually it wouldnt start up at all. took the 9800 pro out, put in a old agp nvidia card he used in the past in the same slot, pc boot right up, no shutting off. i took the 9800 pro home to my house, put it in my spare computer, and it boot right up nice and stable. i cant figure out if its the mobo not working with this 9800 pro for a reason not clear to me, or some thing else. his mobo is a Gigabyte GA-K8NS Ultra939 NForce3, 2x 512mb pc3200 ddr400 sdram, AMD Athlon 64 3500+ not sure what core, 200gb SATA WD-HDD 7200rpm, 80gb Maxtor ATA 7200rpm, soundblaster Audigy 2 ZX or what ever that z class is. any help or ideas would be highly appreciated. thanks. |

Try unplugging all the devices you don't absolutely need and using only 1 stick of ram, and underclocking everything. If that helps its a power supply issue

His PSU is a 500W Ultra, his card is made by ATi.
I tried troubleshooting it some like you said h3x4d, but didnt try one stick of ram, or underclocking any thing, sense i couldnt even get into the bios to do that. Didnt think of a power supply issue, ill try that out. thanks |

If his PSU is a 500 watt but from a noname brand, then you could still only be getting 250 watts continuous power, which is short for a machine like that

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, i figured out the company that put the computer together (cyberpower) had plugged in a 3 ended power cable into the psu twice and once into other components, thats must of been what was causing it cause after i fixed it, it works fine now :/
good job to cyberpower. and thanks to you guys. |
