Retail 9800 Pro to 9800 XT, should I?

I believe I have an R350 core thats what the last program I tried said. For some reason Radlinker wont even let me overclock my card, it says it will reset to the new settings, I reset and its all back to default again. I am guessing this is the protection on the card, I read somewhere on here about R350 cores not letting you OC.

I was thinking about softmodding the card to an XT via a BIOS flash. The thread of interest in the sticky seems to point to nowhere. Any info here?

Is there a program I can use to give me live statistics on my cards temperature? Nothing included seemed to be able to do that.

I planned on getting that Antec VCool for my card so that it doesnt overheat when/if I overclock or softmod, is it good?

Thanks for the help everyone

EDIT- The card is the 256 MB one not the 128 MB. Retail ATi not sapphire.

http://www.techpowerup.com/bios/?search=9800look for the ATI 9800 xt bios and follow the directions to find out how to flash. There is no way u get a temp sensor because the 9800 does not have one so no luck there buddy, sry.

I would not flash the Bios on that card you can only flash to XT if you have the R360 core have you tried any other programs to overclock like ati tool or ati tray tools.

Yes you could flash it too the 9800XT but lets figure something out first.. your core and memory speeds need to be able to handle the higher clocks so lets take the first step and flash your bios which will unlock it so we can use radlinker to set the core & memory to the right specs.. which is 378/338, so go to the site FearTheTerp mentioned http://www.techpowerup.com/bios/ and just grab a 9800 Pro 256 meg card with the correct ram being either samsung 2.8 or hynix 2.8 and flash the sucka.. then get back in and use the radlinker for the XT speeds which are 412/365, if your card can do these speeds with no artifacts then we're ready to flash it too a 9800XT. Just make sure before flashing your card that you remove all ATi drivers with drivercleaner and if your using any other program to overclock your card make sure its set to default speeds after you've done all that then its time to flash your card.. make sure you get ATiflash 3.09 and the proper bios for your card and make a XP startup disk and extract the files to your floppy after that go into your bios and set your floppy for first boot detection.. after all is said and done you can revert back to what setup you had in your bios. The proper way to flash your card is simple and goes like this.. A:\atiflash -p 0 -f biosname.bin then press enter and your good to go. If you have any more questions feel free to use my msn messenger or just post back in here.. good luck & peace bro.

Damage helped me in flashing my BIOS. However I choose not to do it now since it screws with FRAPS video recording. I flashed to a compatible 9800 Pro 256 MB BIOS and my framses were fine, but not when recording via FRAPS. Thanks all for the help
