??? 9600 PRO Problems... Again!

Last time my game used to crash and reboot my PC after 5-10 minutes. I figured out it was an overheating problem and now I have the new fan installed and working.

But now my problem comes after an hour. Even when playing a non-graphics intensive game (Counter-Strike 1.6) it freezes -- Repeats a sound over and over --- The screen goes black and then after a dozen more seconds the picture comes back up either with me dead or the round ending. This really is an annoyance, I've tried the 'switch to AGP 4X' trick, but that doesn't work -- Fast Writes won't turn off, my video card won't allow it, I've tried turning down the graphics settings as well. What should I do? I have the latest drivers. Perhaps turning down the 'Hardware Acceleration' a notch would stop these crashes?

What can I do?

Did you turn off fastwrites in your mother board bios? Do that first, and the card's setting should go off. Also, are you overclocking at all? And what type of power supply do you have?

If these check out, the card is likely on its way out.

disregard that! There is not enough evidence to come to that conclusion yet!

Whats your complete system specs?
( mobo model & chipset, psu make watt, cpu, memory,OS, sound, etc)

Whats you CPU temps reading? as well as the voltages reported in the
monitor in your bios? +/-5V, +/-12V, +/-3.3V etc

Check for a bios update for you motherboard,
leave or set fast writes on in the bios if there is an option
(never disable it in the bios, some system reqiure this, it also
diables benficail things like side band andressing! If you ant to try
disabled you must use smartgart)

Download a memory tester program like docmemory or memtest86
and make a bootable test disk with it. Run a test and see if your memory errors

Delete everything in c:\windows\temp\ and c:\windows\prefetch\
uninstall and reboot and reinstall the latest video drivers.

another 250 psu.. my bad cowboy. So many people with the same problems I get lost in which one we've helped and not helped. Well sorry to say bro but that PSU will keep giving you problems until you get a new one.. I'm not saying that's the main reason but it's definetly a start to your issues with instability. The way to get into your motherboard is to either press "F1 or Delete" keys after you start your computer up, if F1 or Delete don't work then refer to your motherboard manual, if you don't have a motherboard manual then I'd suggest downloading one from the mobo website. If you want to find out what motherboard you have look on the motherboard itself.. it's usually in between the pci slots. Good luck and post all your specs so that we might be able to help you further bro.

Hehehe see! I suspected as much that it could be the PSU.
What is it with people and low watt psu's recently

You need at lest a 300W PSU but actually you want look at 350W or better.
Or 450W if you want one that will last threw another upgrade..
If you like in the U.S. a good place to look is www.newegg.com

If you want we can make some cheap reccomandations but you looking at $30-40
The power supply is the most important part of a PC you can't skimp

Skimping on the power supply is like buying a really really really expensive high performance car then putting regular gas in it. You just don't do it.

Nothing was damaged, thankfully it happened while I was standing in the room. I ran over to the PC and yanked the cord on the PSU. Funny thing is I seen the screen for a setting, and windows was shutting down! It was replaced with the PSU in my sig. I still need to send it back in for RMA.
