mobility radeon 7000 and 9000 performance??
Alright so I'm getting a laptop off my grandpa that he bought recently for a discustingly good deal. He discovered that he hates laptops...period. So he said to me "Ben I want to sell it to you. lets negotiate a price later when I'm sober."
anyway I'm not entirely sure which laptop he has. Its either a Toshiba Satalite A65 or A70. I'm crossing my fingers for it being an A70, but hey A65 is no slouch. Anyway one has a mobility radeon 7000 and one has a mobility radeon 9000. I'm under the impression that the 9000 will perform better than a geforce 440 GO, so that gives me a very good idea of what kind of gaming I'll be looking at out of this sucker. However, I have NO IDEA what a 7000 will do. Doing a few google searches found nothing. Can anyone tell me how the mobility radeon 7000 will perform (and what the heck, the 9000 also)? Thanks guys.

dont know the raw data, but i can play most new games on low resolution with my 9000. Guild Wars runs well at high res, Doom 3 is ok, HL2 runs great, BIA... and so on. I would go for it, but not for games, laptops are just great to have.

Expect similar performance to the desktop parts.... FWIW: A 7000 will run games like HL1 really well. A 9000 will run games like D3 and HL2 better than a 7000 would, but don't expect desktop equivalent performance.....and watch your battery life

I was hoping it could play Source if it was a 7000. I think its a 9000 but I just dont know. I'll find out at the time of purchase when I actually get to inspect it.

Go for somethingl ike a 9000 or 9600 if you can - AFAIK the 9600 seires will do source better, being a DX9 part

well its not like I have an option. If I had the money and time I'd shop around for a laptop. This is a one time deal getting a laptop from a family member. I just hope its the 9000 and not the 7000.

IMHO, mobility 9000 and 7000 preform quite close to each other. You won't be able to do any reasonably fast gaming (read FPS) but other simpler games should be just fine.

Well it might. More work done per clock cycle = more power = need less clockcycles

the 9000 isn't that bad, with a MR 9000 64 mb (discrete, not integrated) I played HL2, and Doom 3 without any issues, along with Rome:TW, C&C Generals, WoW and many other new games, so he can probably do it with a 9000, with the 7000, he's up a creak

At what lower resolutions, I was already at 640x480 for Doom 3, and 800x600 for HL:2, you can't drop much lower than that. With R:TW and C&C:G you can drop some, cause those ran better, but the 9000 ran new games, but not even close to the best resolutions or features, I consider them as running just fine, but only in the sense that they ran smoothly. But if nothing else you can run older games on the 7000, at least you can still have great fun with the old classics.

Mobility Radeon 7000
DirectX 7.0 1 vertex pipe, 2 pixel pipes Pixel shaders?? 64bit memory Mobility Radeon 9000 DirectX 8.1 1 vertex pipe, 4 pixel pipes Pixel shaders 1.4 128bit memory I've got a old (7200) 64mb vivo desktop card, 2 pixel pipes, plays command and conqer gernals, ut2003, etc just fine! Of course not at any AA or higer reses.... It's amazeing sometimes how well those old cards have held up... But laptops a a bit slower to begain with so it hard to say what are you pulling in 3dmark 2001se??

Does it run doom 3 neon (just outta curiosity, thats the most demanding game I know of). And I doubt its so much as held up as much as many games are very much scalable as far as graphics anymore.

MR7000 has no pixel shaders what so ever.
Anything without PS will tap the CPU for that stuff (if it works at all) in current games. So I guess the more CPU power you have, the better levereged it is with a lower end graphics. |

not the capasity)Not sure plays hl2 etc... I doubt doom III plays unless you se the res really low setting . Hell doom III even plays on vodoo cards and that radeon should be faster faster so it might But laptops probubly no it a diffrent story with intergrated grahics and laptops. There is some bigg bottle necks and loss of performance.... over a simulary set up desktop pc

Hl2 will play, just without pixel shaders it'll look more like HL1 with uber physics
![]() Doom III could possibly play if you got some badass optimizing going on like turning off all the services, using the best possible Omega drivers etc.. It should be possible, just again, not like you'd be able to on a desktop PC |
