Hey guys, new to the forum. I picked up a Radeon 9550 AGP 128MB Card earlier today. Had GeForce 4 MX440 in here before. Installed the Radeon, turned on the comp..just got the monitor test. So, before I got all pissy, I took the card out, put the GeForce back in, same result. So, close to freaking out, I plugged the monitor into my onboard card. EVerything came up. I figured my AGP Slot was screwed, took the card back, picked up an ATI Radeon 9250 256MB PCI card. Installed it, same freaking result as the other two cards, no dice. I don't know what is wrong, i disabled the onboard graphics. I am using an older comp. Its about 4 years old. Its a Compaq Presario(great stuff, jk). I know its not an amazing comp but, is it too dated for these newer cards? Running an AMD Althlon Processor 1.3ghz, 512 MB Ram, windows XP, everything checks out for the requirments on the box. Anyone know what the hell might be going on? I'm inches from a core meltdown here. |

Have you tried to flush your BIOS? Does the card's fan turn when you start up? What kind of power supply do you have in there?

Is your AGP a 2x only slot? If so it might not like the fact that alot of 2x slots are 3.3 volts only rather than the 1.5 ~ 1.6 volts that 4x - 8x slots are.... I had this problem on an IBM Aptiva with an 8500.

Strange, i'm facing the similiar problem.
I'm using intel d845gbv mobo. 512ram. P4 2.0A Ghz I was previously using gf4 mx440. then i decided to upgrade my graphic because the 3d graphic are screwy. i bought my self a ati radeon 9550 256MB card. I took out my old gf4 mx440 card and slot in the new ati card. Faced the same problem i got monitor test....... so i decided to put back my gf4 mx440, it works fine....... things that i tried: flash my bios uninstall old video driver note : the graphic card fan is running, no beep mobo agp is a 4x slot, 1.5V anyone got any ideas? |

could it be power related? newers card use more power and OEMs
put "just enough" in there to get you by they way they sold it on the shelf and thats it... Make sure your onboard video is diasableing or disabled... with the new card in pug you monitor to the onboard and see if your getting video still from the onboard
