Actually, I'm not sure if it's the card, the MoBo, or just what.
However, twice now in the last week I've had the monitor screen go completely haywire. It's hard to describe, but it's essentially just a repeat pattern with kind of a pinkish color to it. The pattern is very small and is repeated across the entire screen. The ONLY way to correct it is to reboot the computer. Each time I've done this, it's corrected it just fine. The first time it happened, I was away from the computer and away from the house. I have no idea how long it was in this state. The second time it happened is just a few moments ago while playing Morrowind. I've got several case fans running and I have the side panel off the case, too. I also don't actually feel any unusual heat around the card. I DID, however, hear a small click or pop at the time it happened a moment ago. And, yes, I've done some overclocking on the card, but it's very small at the moment.... 285/285 on a 275/275 card. Both the card and the mobo were purchased at the same time. Have you tried the card out in a different computer or tried a different monitor?

Does the screen funkiness go away if you just turn the monitor off and then back on again (without rebooting)?

Don't never had that problem, just doing an Off/On on the screen wouldn't fix it, imho. If it's a gfx (as it seems), the monitor has no direct influence in it.

Heat?
Could it be heat related? Have you tried the "take the side off your case and point a room fan at it" trick to see if that clears up the problem? (If it does, then it's time to look into some case modding.
)

Well, it just happened again a few minutes ago.
Simply rebooting via the Reset switch normally takes care of it. However, this time I also had to unplug the computer and then plug it back in. We're having unusually cooler temps here this winter and the room is 'sweater' cool already. When it happened this time, there was a definite 'pop' sound, so, I'm getting a bit worried. I started up WinBond and the only warning showing is the VSB voltage...which is slightly low. I don't imagine that would be a big deal as that only applies to the system when it's in Standby Mode. I NEVER have the system in Standby. I'm going to reduce all o'clocking for a few days to see if it clears up the problem. Probably better to be safe than sorry. Dyre Straits |

After a few days of no overclocking at all, the monitor was all 'pinkish' when I got up this morning.
I guess I'll be doing some trouble shooting over the weekend (or the next few days) by swapping my video cards around to make sure whether it's a video card or mobo problem. ![]() Dyre Straits |

I may have found part of the problem....if not all of it.
1. I did a cleaning of the interior of the case and, when I finished, the computer wouldn't boot into Windows. Discovered a loose IDE cable connection at the mobo. Made sure everything was properly connected. 2. I had a low voltage reading on the VSB and have replaced the PSB with a 350 WATT new one. So far, there hasn't been a repeat performance, but, it'll need to go this way for several days before I'll rest easy. Dyre Straits |
