Radeon X800XL or GeForce 7800 GT OC???

Does anyone know a lot about graphics cards that can help me out? I just bought a new computer tonight and I need help deciding wich graphics card to get.

My main use if not only use for the graphics card will be for gaming so I think I only care which is better specificly for games.

I can get an ATI Radeon X800XL for $255 (original price is $300) or I can get a GeForce 7800 GT OC for $270 (original price $380)

Also, would my computer work better with an ATI card because it has an ATI shared graphics card built in? Or does that not matter once you plug in an independant card?

Hi, nubienoob!

I'm really a big fan of ATi's cards. However, if I were in your shoes, I'd really give some serious consideration to that 7800 OC.

As for whether or which one will work best, as long as you Disable the Onboard Video it shouldn't make any difference which card you put in.

Yeah im with Dyre, im more ATi oriented, but if your set on a price, the GT seems like a better buy. But if your going to Overclock i would recomend the Asus X1800XL @ Newegg for $360 Retail. They can OC to XT speeds (625/1500) easy and run at decent temps, good luck.

I found out i need a 400 watt power supply for the 7800 and my computer only has a 300 watt max. Anyone know how much a 400 watt power supply costs? Im trying to decide if its worth it. Is there a noticable difference between the two side by side?

What is that x1800 one? is that a different brand? is it better then the 7800?

Oh and as for the second guy, Im sorry Im a nub if you couldnt tell by my name. I dont really understand anything your saying except for the overclocking part. The 7800 comes overclocked. It says it on the box. If overclocking is tweaking the card and sacraficing some longevity for some performance I dont think thats worth it anyways because both of these cards are way more then I need for the games I play at the moment. WoW, BF2, source.

Not all 400W PSUs are the same. The most important thing to look for is what it puts out on the 12V Rail. It needs to be at least in the low 20 A range and higher is better.

A good PSU is going to cost around $70 US. You might get one cheaper online, but, I hate risking getting ripped off if you don't know for sure what you're getting.

Are you talking about only PCI-Express video cards?

Almost as much as a 500W...and you'd be better to get one of those.

The Enermax Liberty series or any Enermax PSU I can highly reccomend..... they're very beefy. The Liberty series is also very reasonably priced.

Where did you read you need a 400w PSU? 7800GT's consume 75-80w My current system consumes 150w I have a 300w PSU and will be running a 7800gt next week, that is unless some link from nvidia says a 400w is minimum

Running a power supply near or at its full maximum is not very good and will dramatically kill the lifespan as well as screw up voltage rails and such which is why having more than you need is better in terms of PSUs

ok, even tho i can get the 7800 for almost the same price as the x800, I would still have to spend about a hundread bucks more if I went with the 7800.

Do you guys think its worth it for 100 bucks more? Is there a noticable differnce in anything if you were to run them side by side ?

It is $5 more but shipping is free 2nd day fed ex, at tiger shipping would be over $10 and it would be by ups ground which takes 3 to 5 days.

Why would you ask other people what I know?

I know that my computer is PCIe beacause of when I bought my graphics card.

Do power supplys also come in PCIe and AGP?

I think this ine is a different crappier model then the one at tigerdirect because it only has a 3 year warranty instead of the lifetime.

Read the warranty info at tiger direct it says that all ultra products come with a three year warranty that is upgradable to a lifetime warranty by registering it online so it is probably the same psu zipzoomfly just does not mention that you can upgade to the lifetime warranty.
