t i've been using it a lot more ![]() Don't get me wrong i only use it at college but we've got about 160 HDV clips in the clip bin at any one time and i'm working with several multiclips at any one time (about 14 angles of HD Footage - 5/6 minutes long each clip) with audio syncing, Even the latest iMacs struggle, But the Mac Pros definately seem to handle it to a certain degree... Then FC crashes while i'm saving and my entire project becomes corrupted (thank f k i had a back up) and i lost it but since then that hasn't happened, I think they might have updated the software. But to be perfectly honest beyond final cut and logic; everything else about a mac is purely asthetic IMO. Aperture may well be good but compared to the speed i've built up over the years with Photoshop there's absolutely no point in using anything else in my case. |

Re: Would you ever contemplate buying a mac?
Yeah. I feel like this should die, but I didn't buy Windows for one specific program. I bought Windows to use for a multitude of programs, most of which are cross-platform. I also just prefer the Windows environment to the Mac one. I am in no way insulting or degrading mac or FCP, but I just would never go and buy an entire computer and OS just for one program -- to me, that's the equivalent of buying a 360 JUST for Halo, or buying a PS3 JUST for...uh....Heavy Rain..?
And given that, maybe we should lock/kill this thread. |

Re: Would you ever contemplate buying a mac?
First of all, there is no reason to lock the thread IMO.
Second, we are not talking about replacing a windows PC or using the Apple as a main computer. This is about buying a tool for a job. If I go through with this (if the gov does as promised), the new computer is not going to be used for anything other than editing. Not for gaming, not for internet browsing, not for anything. It's not all about games when talking about computers.

A DIY AVID workstation might be an idea, but it's ultimately about what you are used to working with.

Re: Would you ever contemplate buying a mac?
I'm aware and offended you would make that assumption, BlueMak. You think I got a 980X just to game? For shame :P
And in that context, I'd say go for it. If it's what you're the most comfortable with and suits you, then there is no real reason NOT to.

Re: Would you ever contemplate buying a mac?
Wasn't the sole purpose of buying a Mac for some people, up until a certain time, indeed for one program... Photoshop?
Is it Premiere Pro that in now GPU optimized? So could it be that FCP was better written to make use of hardware and ergo felt nicer to use? I'm sure a multi-threaded, 64bit, Stream/Cuda Vegas would run fluidly too. I've been using the Elements and Studio versions over the last few years. I can also say that i liked how MovieShop felt running off a VLabMotion board in my Amiga back in the 90s. So like everyone else, go for what you're comfortable with.
