Venom for Apple?

I have always noticed, and I still do, especially after Apple posted good sales when everyone else is floundering due to the economy that a good majority of PC users just hateeeeeeeeeeee Apple with so much venom that it surprises me.

Now I will say I don't own an Apple, I own 3 windows based computers. But what I don't get it why people hate them so much. I see it on the inquirer a lot with one of their news posters and you get such heated debates on forums that people end up falling out with other. I watched one "debate" on arstechnia blow into a full on flame fest.

Why can people not just enjoy what they like and keep it to themselves, is it a common human failing to want to force your opinions and views on tech onto everyone else. I mean I must be quite rare in that if I find something really cool I tend to keep it to myself so the masses dont get a hold of it and ruin it.

Sure I think some mac users are idiots and narrowminded but I will say that I think there are an equal amount (or even more) on the windows side of the equation, its the smug attitude with it that annoys (and sometimes embarasses) me - I saw oldbuzzard today basically mocking Zardon in the news forum (ok it was tongue in cheek but it was a deliberate prod to get a response on some level). why ? is there a point?

Would you walk up to someone in the street and say their car sucks if you didn't like it? Would you walk up to your mate and say "man your wife aint too pretty now, move onto a new model!".

I don't own an Apple, but I sure as hell wouldn't mind getting one.

To be honest I doubt Z gives a flying F(*k what anyone thinks. guy has so much hardware it must be falling out his ying yang. Nehalem Ep, Skulltrail, 40 graphics card, 16 screens.

It does mean one thing to me though and I never liked Apple, if he owns a few to work on then I will have to look into them further. The guy is a tech wizz and ive been reading DH since it started, I dont think he has ever been wrong with a hardware recommendation yet and what I like about him he that he never says something to "appear cool' to the masses. I remember the owner of another big website who had SLAGGED apple off for 9 months was seen at CES writing on a macbook pro. Thats ironic.

Me? had no interest in apple until recently, but I might look into one of the cheaper ones.

Re: Venom for Apple?

yeah ive seen Z defending apple a couple of times and I admire his honesty in defending what is seen in circles like dh as being a bit uncool.

I like Apple myself, dont have the money to buy more than one computer and I game so they are out, but do I appreciate them? hell yes. Aluminum chassis, LED screens lovely designs, nice stable OS.

I think most Apple haters would take one in a heartbeat if they could do it quietly without being seen. I imagine most Apple haters sitting behind this shitty old PC and screen just red faced with jealousy !

Re: Venom for Apple?

I agree that the whole mac vs pc argument is a bit silly. I have no problem with tongue in cheek remarks, they're not meant to hurt, and creating a debate is fine as long as it's not provoking a flame war.

Both platforms have their specific advantages and you chose the one that suits you best (or both to have the best of both worlds). In my opinion, the gap between pc and mac has narrowed somewhat the last years due to better compatibility with programs (even dualbooting windows on a mac).
I love both pc and mac, the first for a wide choice of hardware and software and performance for you price, the latter for ease of use and nice designs.

Re: Venom for Apple?

I quite like it to be honest. the whole controversial bitchfests. Let me explain.

Apple don't just market an OS like Microsoft. They make computers. They develop them, they design them, they market them. They make ipods, iphones... microsoft really just can't compete with that zune rubbish and whatever other nonsense they make. Thats not my opinion, no I don't own Apple, but its fact. Apple are hated because they are a creative force, its as simple as that. People don't like creative companies. Microsoft leeched from Apples ideas for a long time before getting windows into a good state (and lets not go into the whole Xerox thing, yawn, we all know it). Microsoft? they are hated for just throwing ludicrous amounts of money into developing and publically testing shit software, and making it slowly less shitty as the years go on. Linux users? well they are the equivalent of year 2000 hippies smoking weed and having "independent thought'.

But there will always be fanbois on all sides.

Here is a typical conversation

Microsoft fan "my computer is the best, we can play any game on it"

Apple fan "when it works"

Linux "oh don't be lining the pockets of Jobs or Gates, become an independent thinker!"

I love it, its entertaining. I love watching people embarass themselves slagging something off and thinking they are making a point when in fact they are just showing what is classed as "purchase defense". whats "purchase defense?... well its the kid who goes out and buys something, for example a Zune, to be different. He won't go home, use it, mod it. He goes home, takes a picture, joins apple forums then spends the next 3 months attacking people who like Ipods because he wants to justify to everyone else how important his purchase is ..... to himself.

Do you ever think debates on forums end up with most people changing their mind? people are too self involved to change. Two guys arguing in a thread will never admit to the other they see their point as it would be a sign of weakness.

Its an age old social thing, but in the case of the net it lets a bunch of pussies hide behind a screen whereas in real life if one of the guys was bigger the other one would mumble something, walk off home and kick his dog.

I think people tend to hate what they don't necessarily understand. That would be my best guess.

Re: Venom for Apple?

I think you notice because it seems that Mac users tend to voice their opinion way more than most Window users.

My friends do it etc. They are always saying how great they are blah blah blah. Of course this is a general statement, but you just don't see people who own PC's do this. Maybe it is because Apple does this in the MC vs. PC ad's. Not really sure.

I guess I just don't like them because I don't want to be a part of that group of stuck up people who think they are better than everyone just because they spent a lot on a computer. When really they both do the same thing just a little different.

Really I could care less what people buy. It is not my money nor do I care what people spend money on. When I buy a computer I rather build it myself or if I buy a laptop I rather buy the best one I can, but still keep it cheap because they are so easy to get stolen, dropped etc.

I don't really have any problem with Apple computers. I think they work fine and do the job they were built for. Just after using the OS I can't justify spending way more just to use it. Windows never gave me problems so I don't see a reason to switch.

Nonsense, between you and bluemak, every apple news post or information thread you are in it voicing your opinion. Its users like you who actually embarass me about being a PC user. Exactly what this thread is about. I expected you would be posting in here, which is what I wanted, so we could talk about your bigotry

I am actually guessing they do it because you are the complete opposite and are always saying how overpriced they are, or how much they suck? Certainly would be an educated guess on what ive seen you post on DH.

That is such a ridiculous statement. You are basically classifying every mac user into this elitiest snob group? I know a few users on DH who aren't like that. Z, Dj_stick, Swimtech come to mind (all of whom use PC's regularly as well). What about you? don't you fall into the Microsoft fan boy group? Your post verifies this 100%.

So let me get this clear. you are saying that you don't mind what people buy, yet you are in every apple thread on DH saying something negative. additionally you would rather buy something cheap in case it gets stolen? Where do you live, must be a hell of a crime rate if you analyse all your purchases on a theft ratio.

Re: Venom for Apple?

I do post in a lot of Apple posts, but they are not all negative.

I hardly talk about computers outside of DH anywhere because nobody really cares lol. I was just stating the fact that it just seems that Apple users tend to talk more than anyone else. If I had to use a Mac I would since they are not at all bad.

I just tend to express my ideas about them being expensive etc, but don't expect it to change anyone's mind. They will buy what they want to buy. I will buy what I want to buy. It is only a computer and they get out dated faster than anything. Don't tell me Apple's don't get out dated as fast because that is BS. Apple updated the line up just as much as anyone else with new CPU upgrades etc. That's one of the main reasons why I just don't see the point in spending a little more for an all metal case etc because I will be upgrading every 3 years anyways and a plastic one will last that long with no problem.

From now on I will no longer post about apple I also gave up talking about politics because again everyone already has it in there mind what they are going to buy or who they are going to vote for etc. Nothing is going to change anything.

Re: Venom for Apple?

i don't think we need to be so critical of each other's posts, let's keep this discussion civil

on to the "Mac" though, like Alex stated earlier, Apple design the entire computer basically from the ground up, rather than focusing on the hardware, or the operating system as PC companies do, what they create is a "platform," more akin to a gaming console than a typical PC

with a strictly limited range of hardware that the operating system and applications have to support, it gives the Macintosh platform an inherent stability that PCs don't have. Now I'm not saying it's perfect (it's not) or that PCs are unstable (with the right combination of well-written drivers and decent hardware, you can actually build a PC that's more stable than a Mac - but unfortunately, with Windows you're relying on hardware manufacturers to write drivers for their hardware that comply with Microsofts standards efficiently, and that's where many problems begin

that's also where innovation is stalled. Take for example the multi-touch trackpad on all current macbooks - as Apple design both the hardware AND the software, implementing those features at the OS level would have been easy. With PCs and Windows, you've got to have the hardware manufacturer develop well-written drivers for their product, and hope that MS's dev team will implement the features supported into the OS - otherwise the functions are "patched-on," and tend not to work as well

onto the stereo-typical mac user, yes, even though I own two macs and an ipod, I still want to punch most Apple fanboys - most are such for one of two reasons, they consider themselves "different" or they got a mac because hating MS is "cool"

As for myself, my conversion from Windows was because of my music production work, and I still use Vista regularly for gaming, photoshop etc.
