Enabling Mouse Gestures for Safari

Opera has for a long time been my browser of choice, however it has a few incompatibilities with by banking website, and for some reason has recently stopped displaying certain elements of Facebook properly, forcing me to jump to another browser.

However, I've stuck with Opera for one reason, Mouse Gestures - movements of the mouse that enable fwd/back navigation, reloading, tab switching etc.

But I've now found a way to add mouse gestures to Safari, so it looks like my Opera days are numbered.

How To:

First head here and download SIMBL, a sort of plugin manager for Cocoa apps, and install it

Then head here and download SafariGestures, and copy the SafariGestures.bundle file to /Library/Application Data/SIMBL/Plugins to enable it for all users, or ~/Library/Application Data/SIMBL/Plugins to enable it for a single user account.

Quit and reload Safari

There should now be a menu option SG, meaning you're ready to go!

By default, all the gestures I've used in Opera are available, however you have the option to change, add, or turn off as many as you please.

Tested with Safari 3.2.1 on OS X 10.5.6 and Safari 4.0 on OS X 10.5.7

Re: Enabling Mouse Gestures for Safari

Check out this link Dave, I think that may be what you're looking for

on a side note, this thread shows up as 7th in the list on Google when searching for "mouse gestures in safari windows"

EDIT: There appears to be another program, Cocoa Gestures, that does pretty much the same thing, but for any Cocoa based app (not just safari) if anyone is interested
