The perfect monitor is a Mac?

The 27" iMac has a resolution of 2560x1440 and a DisplayPort input, and it costs $1700. 2560x1600 monitors are 30" and typically cost more, and you don't get a computer with them. So this sounds to me like a pretty good deal for a resolution that's only slightly lower. Someone wanting a high end gaming rig could buy a desktop PC with a Radeon 5870 or two, hook it to an iMac (or two or three with Eyefinity). The Mac itself could be used for storage, folding, whatever. You're basically getting it for free with the monitor.

Re: The perfect monitor is a Mac?

An interesting observation. If the panel quality matches that of similarly specced monitors, then yes, it's a great deal.

Re: The perfect monitor is a Mac?

Can this iMac be used as monitor for a PC?
If yes, then the price, even in the UK (I don't know about Greece since Apple doesn't care), is very good. You get a very good? monitor, at least stats wise, with a good all around computer. I mean..damn! It's the same price of 24" monitors 2-3 years ago, only then you wouldn't get a whole computer and 3 more inches with it.

If this one can be used as only monitor and the monitor is as good as it sounds, then this is a fantastic offer. Wish I could get one!

Hell, even if you just want this without already having a PC, how can you beat this price?

Re: The perfect monitor is a Mac?

For the first time ever, you can use the mini displayport as either an output or an input, using the built in display as a monitor - yes, very cool.

that was about 3 months ago when i had a customer asking about them.

Re: The perfect monitor is a Mac?

whoa whoa whoa! You can use the displayport as an input! OMG. I think I am in love. $1700 for an LED backlite LCD display w/ a 2560x1440 resolution is already is a great price. O lordy, I think I may need to purchase now. I really don't have a use for another computer, but this has really much swayed me decision. Will wait for a review to make sure there isn't any lag or anything for the displayport.

Don't worry my sig hasn't been updated. I don't have the HD4980's, don't have the EX58-UD5, and only have 1 of the X25-M's.

Just picked up a DELL 24" LED backlit LCD for $206+tax with a coupon. Call me cheap but I think it does a pretty good job for the price

I don't need the biggest, just the highestest resolutionest. I envy my wife that she has a 1920x1200 17'' display on her laptop.

1920 on a 17-incher? That's some serious DPI. So, you'd like to have the densest, or should I say thickest one around?

Especially the apple LED 17 inch screens, better than any ive seen at that size. very very minor backlighting variances - compared to anything else we have tested anyway.

I wonder how the inexpensive 23" Samsung 2343BWX @ 2048x1152 looks. Thats kind of an oddball resolution but fairly high density. It's still a Twisted Nematic panel though.

I would like to see what that one looks like also and you are right it is kind of a wierd resolution but hey the price of the monitor might have played a role in how it was produced.

I've that monitor at home right now actually..

Its actually a very good looking very sharp monitor.

The density is quite nice.. the resolution is 16:9 ratio and 1920x1080 content plays back very well on it.

I highly recommend that monitor for anyone that doesn't want to spend a considerable amount more to get a higher quality monitor.

Even though the type of panel used in it is typically seen as not that great..... color reproduction on it is fair, viewing angles are reasonable... and the responce time is amazingly great.

My current and previous monitors are Samsung, as well as my new HDTV. Samsung makes pretty good monitors. 2048x1152 is certainly nice. I wish they could up it just a little from 1152, so that it's at least 1200.

TNs have improved during the past year quite a bit. Lots of different configurations, backlighting schemes, internal circuitry - production quality getting better all the time...

I'm getting a look at that monitor soon too - lucky Judas! Great pixel density.

The smaller new iMac doesn't have the input capability, but does have an IPS screen from what I can gather, though I've not seen one yet. I'm sure I will soon, and from the inside out!

If you wait for Dell's "Days of Deals" they've had 30" monitors pretty cheap in the past, the 3007WFP-HC has gone for as low as $899 CAD.
