Play the piano on your computer?

I know this may sound like wishful thinking, but I was hoping there is some kind of software out there that simulates a real, 88-key acoustic piano on the computer using your standard computer keyboard. Does anyone know of such a program? I really want to learn how to play, but the sheer cost of buying a good digital piano prevents me from being able to. Any help is appreciated.

Even if there was software to do this, there is no way you can simulate a real piano w/ a PC keyboard. hitting keyboard keys is nothing like piano keys. There are a few programs out there that help you learn piano, I cant remember the names of them except for "teach me piano" by voyetra software. I have a yamaha digital piano and have had it hooked up to my PC before w/ a special cable (it was not a standard midi cable, but you can do that w/ the proper equipment) and used that program. It worked well, but if i remember right installing the yamaha driver for the cable was a pain and i had trouble getting it working at first (i believe that was before I had win XP though).

I would look into getting a cheap midsize keyboard that had MIDI capabilities, or some sort of way to hook it up to your pc.

EDIT: heres a link http://www.voyetra.com/site/products/tmp/tmp_usb.asp

This is definitely an improvement over the version i have.

Steinberg, The Grand 2
I heard it needs a beefy PC to run and it will not come cheap. Dont know if there is a trial version. Check steinberg.de
