Winrar write access error

I recently upgraded my fathers PC which brought along the need to reinstall windows. All went without a hitch until today when my father told me he was unable to compress large amount of files using winrar (something that appearently worked flawlessly before the upgrade).
After doing some trial and error experiments I realised that he can easily compress 30 files (for example) and then add the rest in groups of 30 (again, an example). Trying to compress all the files in one go however returns a write access error. Same happens if he tries to compress 40 files at the same time.

I am quite stumped as I have no idea what is causing this. Any ideas?
