Odd Problem with PhotoImpact 11

Here's something that maybe someone here can help me out with.

I have a sister who uses this exact same program for her graphics projects. She does a LOT of things using framing and layers.

Well, on Christmas Day my brother-in-law told me that she'd begun having problems with it. When she would open it up (under XP) all she would get is a large window with absolutely no interface to work with -- no Toolbar or anything at all! He had to resort to uninstalling the program and then reinstalling it to get it to work again. But, after a few uses, it would do the same thing.

Well, I'm using this same program under Vista and had never, ever had a problem with it like this.

Until....

The day after Christmas late at night, I went to open the program and....I got the exact same thing he described! I couldn't believe it!

I tried several things to see if I could get any kind of response to get an interface to show up and the only thing that worked was to uninstall and then reinstall it. I actually tried a Repair operation on it first without success.

Soooo....the question is:

Has anyone else had this happen and is there anyway to correct it other than the uninstall/reinstall operation?

It's just very, very weird that this happened only the day after my b-i-l told me about it happening on my sister's PC. Almost makes me think there's some kind of 'time bomb' in the program.

So far [knock on wood] it hasn't happened with any other program, although there have been a few that hang up when I try to start them. Example: 3DMark 2006 has shown some problems lately.

Now, I know my sister doesn't do any overclocking, although I have been tinkering with it some on my own PC.

Any thoughts or suggestions, please?

Since my sister isn't using an ATi card, I can't imagine it being a video card driver issue. But, that's a thought.

And, yes, I'm using the original CD key.
