Re: Firefox problem

1) When you go into Tools | Options | Privacy, is "Always clear my private data when I close Firefox" checked on? If yes, double check the settings for it, in particular whether the check box to clear "Saved Passwords" is on.

2) What, if any, AV or anti-malware software do you have? The reason I ask is that some can block Firefox from saving passwords, or clear out passwords when a scan is performed.

3) Give THIS page a look before proceeding to the next step. Reason is that if you mess up, or if doesn't recognize the files you backed up after you restore them, then you will have to redo all your passwords.

4) For Firefox all passwords are stored in 2 files (can be 3): key3.db (the encryption file), and signons3.txt (the sites lists with corresponding encrypted passwords... there might also be a signons2.txt if you had Firefox v.2). What you can try: close Firefox, backup those files, then delete them. Along with those 2/3 files delete the one called cookies.sqllite. After that open up Firefox, go to a site you want to try saving the password for, close Firefox, open it, and try that site again.

On the same note, if you could try to create a new profile for Firefox. Just backup your bookmarksbackup folder, and any "bookmark" files. Don't backup anything else. Go up to the main folder "Profiles", and delete any profiles listed in there (they would be xxxxx.default). Go up one folder to the main Firefox folder, and edit the file called "profiles.ini", and delete out any listing that says "[ProfileX]", then save it. After that just start up Firefox, and it will recreate a new profile for you. If you decide to reinstall Firefox make sure you do what I listed above to get yourself a clean new profile, as well as delete the Mozilla folder in "Program Files" folder before reinstalling Firefox.

Re: Firefox problem

On one of the links says there is a bug with 3.0.2 and I need to upgrade to 3.0.3 or later. BUT, I have 3.0.11 and when I click to check for updates says no new updates...so...yeah..

I use Antivir. There was no profiles.ini file that I could find, either in the installation directory or the appdata respective folder. I will delete the profiles folder there. If this fails I will reinstall it, though I hope I won't have to.

Re: Firefox problem

I'll look into it a bit more. I also have a link that I use for sites that refuse to allow the saving of passwords. It resets the value for autocomplete, thus allowing you to save the username/password.

Just for reference, the profiles.ini file is usually in C:\Documents and Settings\user folder\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox for XP. I'll have to double check the location for Vista when I get home.
