Comparison between different Anti-Virus products
I've been comparing AVs since 1996 during the command prompt til the GUI environment. I can tell about AVs.
Let me tell you about AVs or ISs... If you are after [consume less PC resources]. (Lightest to heaviest): NOD32 Avast Avira AVG Trend McAfee Norton Kaspersky High Detection balanced with LESS FALSE POSITIVES and Updated Signatures.(Best to least) NOD32 Avast Norton McAfee Kaspersky Avira AVG High Detection regardless of false positives (Highest to lowest) Avira NOD32 Avast Norton McAfee Kaspersky AVG Feature rich AVs (best to least) Bitdefender Kaspersky Can be tweak at your desired settings (Admin love this feature) Kaspersky Proactive defense (Old virus signature) detection here is based on behavior and heuristic. NOD32 Avast Norton McAfee NOTE: The above comparison is based on my own analysis and study about MALWARES and AVs. VB100,AVcomparatives,WestCoast have better testing equipments and samples. They are more reliable than my own study.. I'm limited. But in this world full of malwares I have to conduct my own study to prove to myself who has the better protection...and I concluded that the best AV is the human being...if he understand how malware works then any AV can be his tool to simplify detection. No AV is better that Human being who understand Malwares. But of all AVs I strongly believe NOD32 to have the best balanced on detection against Malware and innocent files but Im not convinced for NOD32's Internet security suite or IS..it is too automated. I need a security software that I can tweak the way I want. So I prefer COMODO as the best in my opinion when it comes to Firewall. Antivir is an AV that can be installed in Windows Safemode...this is very useful when emergency occur in your office. Same as Sophos' command prompt based package...Still very useful with a PC already compromised. I hope this can help you decide the best. Last edited by jseven2003; Sep 26, 2009 at 06:34 AM. |

by the way guys...Im not talking AVs that does not qualify. These AVs are best...so Im comparing best of the best. There are still many AVs who has exceptional strength but I only mention the commonly used or known AVs. (I did not mention earlier Norman (TBAV) shark.nl ,F-Secure,Panda,G-Data,Webroot,QuickHeal[CAT],CA,F-Prot,etc.)
We can't tell this is the best AV or that...it depends upon our need. Like me...talking to AVs I only need very lightweight and very fast scans but of course better if not the best detection. Even NOD32, my best choice on "my need" still can't 100% detect malwares (though in my personal investigation has the best heuristic and behavioral analysis). So the best thing is a community that helps submit suspected malwares and constant update to their AVs(signatures and components). Last edited by jseven2003; Sep 26, 2009 at 07:14 AM. |
