I just did a search for Dropbox on the forum and not one single thread about it, to my surprise.
Dropbox has to be one of the best programs ever created and it can be used for free. Dropbox is a small program, which syncs a folder on your PC with the Dropbox servers automatically. This mans if you copy anything to the Dropbox folder, it will automatically start to upload. Now this is brilliant for multiple purposes:
And no I don't work for Dropbox, I just think it's a brilliant program

Re: Dropbox
I've used Dropbox for many months now and I think it's great for when I forget my USB drive and need to install programs on people's computers.

Re: Dropbox
Nice way to up your storrage quota... nothing wrong with that, but it's missleading to give yourself as a refferal in the link without telling us about that.
Anyway dropbox is quite ok.

Re: Dropbox
It's pretty clear from the link, that it's a referal link..
But anyway, without that referral, you would actually "only" get 2gb, but when refereed you get 2,25gb. |

Re: Dropbox
You do get the .25 after a few minor steps, whithout reffering or being reffered. Believe me, I use the service for a while now.
If I am reffered by someone it doesn't give me the extra 250MB, it gives that person an extra 250MB for every person that clicks the refferal link. My problem was that you are trying to use the forum users to get your account a larger space quota. Every person that uses that link to sign for Dropbox, gives you and extra 250MB storrage space. Also when you refer someone it automatically becomes linked to your account and you have elevated rights and access to some of their stored files. As I said what you are doing is not entirely wrong, but you should disclose the fact that you're also after that every 250MB extra space and what it means for the reffered user, since it can be interpreted as fraud.

Re: Dropbox
And I've used it since the closed beta.....
You can get .25 extra by following some small steps on their site, thats correct. But you DO get .25 extra when being refereed via a referal link - COPY / PASTE FROM DROPBOX SITE: Once your friend registers and installs Dropbox, you'll both get extra space. Hooray! Quote:
I post a link, so people will get .25 extra and you call me a fraud? If you continue to spread false information and continue to call this fraud, I see no other choice, but report you for harassment. Oh and one other thing tiny small detail...... I've hit the maximum 3 GB you can earn from referrals, a long time ago. Last edited by Erroneus; Mar 30, 2010 at 01:17 AM. |

Re: Dropbox
It's called 'collaboration'. When someone is referred by someone else, they are 'collaborators'. Collaborators can see some of each others folders.
If you already hit your maximum, why did you post the link with your account as a referral? The extra 250MB the users would gain on signup does not come from that. Is there another point in using the link with your account as a referral? The misleading part is "You get a free 2GB account (2,25GB if you follow my link) and if you need more, more space can be bought." You can get extra by inviting people to join, like you did in your link. The fraud part would the the 'collaboration' part, which can be avoided, but if the new users don't know how to use the service, they might miss it. This is the other thing a referral link can be used. Whatever, I see no point in continuing this discussion... If people want to sign up for Dropbox they can do it by going manually to www.dropbox.com
