Softimage XSI 3.01/3.5 not working with latest ATI drivers

Ugg.
After doing some searches on the forum (and others for that matter) I cannot see to find any new ATI drivers that works with Softimage XSI. I have a ATI Radeon M6 in my laptop, and have been using the Catalyst driver set with the modifications to install it on my laptop.

However, the only recent driver version I can get to work with XSI is wxp-w2k-radeon-7-90-030605m-009437c-efg. Any more recent version than this (Including the drivers from Omega) will crash XSI on startup, when initializing OpenGL in the viewports.

I am running windows xp pro, sp1, all of the latest hotfixes.

Does anyone know about how to fix this, and what the difference might be in the newer drivers ?
