Windows 2000
I need some tweaks for windows 2000. Faster bootup, less resources used, ect. Anyone?

Yeah, try going here. I use this guys guide for tweaking win2k and winxp all the time. Just go through and follow his guide. If you have any questions, post them here.

If you want to optimize windows and master every part of it, get a copy of the Win2k Resource Kit Documentation. it is a comprehensive technical resource, remember you'll have to use the Registry, you'll know and understand how to tweak your windows and know more about windows in no time,
windows contains so many different settings and customizations that it simply wasn't possible for MS to build a graphical interface for every conceivable possibility. and there are many times when it's easier and you get more options when you edit the Registry rather than using the graphical windows interface. In fact, whenever you change a setting using the GUI, behind the scenes a Registry change is made that puts that new setting into effect. the menus and dialog boxes you see in windows are just a visual front-end to the Registry. |

Yea, same as the DOS commands it's doing behind a the scenes. How much does win2k use at boot for you guys? Mines around 60-70mbs. But they're still a few things I'm sure I can disable to free up a few more megs.

You be lucky to get less than that. That is actually a very good number.

Yea well I was the tweak masta at win98. I had what, 10-20 second boot times? It's slower now since it's on my 10gb tho... Hmm, what do you think is causing the 100 point drop in 3dmark (compared to 98) with win2k and do you think I can get it back?

Those 100 points in 3dmark mean nothing in the real gaming world.
