open the file and add the tweaks
Backup=1
Optimize=1
MaxBackupCopies=5

Where it says "Backup=1" leave this alone, this will backup your registry once a day if there are no critical problems with the registry. If set to 0, it disables it.
Where it says "Optimize=1", leave this alone cause it optimizes the registry some to help speed it up.
Where it says "MaxBackupCopies=5", I'd recommend keeping a minimum of 5, but you can enter a higher number if you want to keep more backups
