System.ini file; add or edit (if they are already there) the following lines under the appropriate header:
[386Enh] MinSPs=128 MaxBPs=65530 Com1Protocol= Com1Irq4Buffer=1024 Com2Irq3Buffer=1024 Com3Irq4Buffer=1024 Com4Irq3Buffer=1024 ComBoostTime=1 32BitDiskAccess=On DMABufferSize=64 DMABufferIn1MB=On DualDisplay=On PageBuffers=32 KeyBoostTime=0.1 KeyIdleDelay=0 LocalLoadHigh=1 VGAMonoText=Off MinTimeSlice=80 EMMExclude=A000-FFFF PerVMFiles=150 ConservativeSwapfileUsage=1 *Note* - If you have problems connecting to the internet/loading pages, etc. after tweaking these files, try boosting the Com1, 2, 3, & 4 Buffers (ie Com1Irq4Buffer=1024) to equal 2048. MinTimeSlice= Sets the minimum time slice. Lower values improve multitasking but decrease overall performance, higher values = vica versa. Default = 20. Experiment with the following settings: 10, 20, 40, or 80. My recommendation is 80 DMABufferSize= Sets the size of the Direct Memory Access Buffer in kilobytes. I recommend setting it to 64 ConservativeSwapFileUsage=1 This line makes the Swap File (Virtual Memory) not usable until something really needs to use it, when you run out of available RAM. This will cause you to have, on average, less free RAM than before, but whatever was in the Swap File is now in RAM meaning it will run much faster than before. But when something (like a game) loads, it will use the Swap File much more (if there isn't enough free RAM) resulting in slower gameplay. So I'd recommend trying this out and seeing which is better (change it to =0 to turn it off), but if you have at least 256 MB RAM, then just enable it LocalLoadHigh - This setting tells the operating system to load its local drivers into upper memory by default as opposed to trying to squeeze them into conventional memory. Even though you'd think this wouldn't matter anymore, DOS still does play a role in how fast the operating system and leaving it whatever resources it might need is important. To enable this tweak, you should insert the line LocalLoadHigh=1 under the [386Enh] section. 32BitDiskAccess=On this enables 32bit acess to the disk |

I'm assuming you're talking for win9x/me...but you didn't really specify.

That looks for win9x and me. I think you can set similar settings in xp with some registry tweaks

XP doesn't work that way, tweaks are no longer done in the .ini files, these tweaks however can be donein the registry becuase that is where they reside in Win2000/XP.
I assure you, your tweaks are for Windows 9x and they work great, but not for 2000/XP. |

Can you please explain what the rest of them do? (MaxBPs=65530, MinSPs=128, PerVMFiles=150, VGAMonoText=Off, SyncTime=True,) Like all those things, because i do not want to start applying shit when i do not know what they do.

Oh, heck I dont know -- but modifications like this are not done in 2000/XP by using in files, that much I do know.
So best I can think of -- look for the same value in the registry, becuase anything Win9x related that was modified in .ini files is no longer used that way. Windows 2000/XP won't recognize it and ignore it, so it will waste the time you take to type it. |

Actually you can still apply tweaks by using the system.ini file, they still make changes to the computer. I have seen on tweaking sites for tweaking a xp/2k system there is tweaks in the system.ini

You can use these tweaks all you want in XP, they just won't work. LOL
.ini files were used for 98/ME, XP doesn't even recognize them |

Com1Irq4Buffer=1024
Com2Irq3Buffer=1024 Com3Irq4Buffer=1024 Com4Irq3Buffer=1024 very controversial many of the tech gurus have said this doesn’t work... and yes all those tweaks were mint for windows 95/98 those are old and many will cause many people serious issues... all rigs are unique

Some are even windows 3.x tweaks like:MinSPs=128 MaxBPs=65530 ComBoostTime=1 DMABufferSize=64 DMABufferIn1MB=On KeyBoostTime=0.1 VGAMonoText=Off MinTimeSlice=80 PerVMFiles=150 I haven't heard much of these since Win3.x

Re: big tweak
First line in my sytem.ini (XP):
;for 16-bit app support I think that says it all. |
