Default Post Shutdown XP Faster

Start Regedit.
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control.
Click on the "Control" Folder.
Select "WaitToKillServiceTimeout"
Right click on it and select Modify.
Set it a value lower than 2000

dont do it too low doh you might lose data

Default Post Power down button

Yup, pressing the Power button while the machine works. Not the 4 sec. press, just an impulse - open appz will give you the save/cancel routine, the system shuts down orderly, just like start_menu/shut_down. And you are spared the "what do you want to do"s.

It works on most machines, in all Windows. On some OSes you need to set the Power button function in "Power Options". In Win2k this setting is not available, but seems enabled by default - and it has the most dramatic effect. Win9x shuts down quickly anyway, and XP doesn't benefit that much.

I guess you also must have some BIOS settings - about the button - set to default, wouldn't know, never changed those.

to get a bigger inpact on shut down speeds, just disable the sound for shut down in the sounds for 'Exit Windows' [put it to none] in control panel

i have had the sound disabled for quite a while. it really does help
the only sound i keep enabled is the "default beep" because that is a very necessary sound in almost every situation. all other sounds get on my nerves

Just right click and make a shortcut pointing to C:\WINDOWS\system32\shutdown.exe -s -t 01 and click that and WHAM...the computer shuts down!

If you're wanting it to reboot, use shutdown.exe -r -t 0

For your shutdown, use shutdown.exe -s -t 0

There's no need to have any delay on it.
