I dont really use these much anymore, mainly IRC. Shareaza was terribly buggy for me. Problem with most Peer to peer applications is as you say speed. I would use overnet for my P2P searches, its probably the most reliable. downside is its very susceptable to firewalls, so you need to spend some time setting it up correctly to make sure you get the best speeds.

Bit Torrent is great- I've downloaded at up to 380kbs before. Average for me is 40 to 175kbs. Selection is quite good too- depending on where you look.

Yeah bittorrent isnt bad, I find it generally terribly slow, sometimes you get lucky with the seeds. dont know if thats classed as peer to peer though

bittorrent doesn't seem to like me much . . . I usually get 5-15 KB/s but it always manages to max out my upload speed

I like WinMX for music, and FastTrack for misc other stuff, but I haven't tried much else . . . I don't really use p2p too much

heh well tbh most of them are full of spyware/bugs. I hada big problem with iMesh it completely mashed my system. I've heard that KaZza has also... there's a list on symantac listing all the software full of bugs and spyware.

I'd go for kazza-lite. You can get some fast dl's and its got quite a large number of users. and its bug FREE!!!1

People who want to try bit torrent should try burst. It is luck of the draw on upload speeds, I usually just leave it on overnight for big files (1gb or more). The trick is to find files that are new.

I know K-light allows downloading only- you can turn off uploading. Generally people look down on "leaching" or downloading only and not uploading. Kinda like going to a nude beach with a snowsuit on- people just get pissed. - and if they can see you are leaching, they'll cut you off if at all possible. At least that's my experience, but I've only tried a few P2P programs, maybe some are different.

I've always used eDonkey. It may be somewhat slow, but I've never gotten a bad file through it.

WinMX for music.

Well you can slow the uploads...but with BT it's about all being a good sport and sharing. Normally once I have finished downloading I'll let it go a few hours longer so others folks can get it.

Yeah man, you should really share with others since they are sharing with you, I can understand if it will cause legal problems or something- but I doubt uploading will cause any more problems than downloading.. I think with bittorrent if you don't allow upload, you can't download anyway- or not nearly as fast.

in some countries, like mine, downloading is allowed. But uploading, read spreading software etc, not

uh... what problems are you having?? I can help you better if you let me know a little more about your set-up. My goup has been using WASTE now for 8 months.... The biggest thing is making sure everyone in your group is using the same port # and that you all have eachothers Public Keys. Other wise you will never connect to eachother....

Share if you download, its tight if you dont.
forget the law about sharing do it while you still can
it will only be a matter of time before big bussiness
stamps out all p2p, if there not getting payed for
something and they know people can get it,they will
endup sueing evry1 they can until its dead (including the end users in time even 4 software).
'trust worthy computing' LOL. beleive me these companies would use the moral standpoint
unless it was them at the other end in which case their lawyers whould still *uck us.

ive buycotted buying music cd's and films because of their actions.
I myself do not see the idea that downloading is stealing.
if you dont want to buy it dont, if you cant afford it.
the idea that when a file is copied a sale is lost is BS.
if you download something and use it a lot and its worth it
support the author by buying it.
